Argue for or against the proposition that children are spending too much time at home using computers instead of taking part in sporting and social activities. Great development of computer technologies and its wide, extensive use has made computers beneficial in schools and has improved our educational system tremendously. However, continuous and excessive use at home by our children has created a negative impact on them, increasing anti-social behavior and obesity. Should Children be banned or given time restrictions on the use of computers at home? Should they be supervised at all times? This essay explores both sides of the arguments and give points from each side to finalize it with conclusion. There has been a dramatic change and improvements in the way our children are taught nowadays. Coursework and class notes are uploaded regularly on the school website making computers an unavoidable tool. The uploaded coursework allows children to review the things they have missed at school at their own pace, ensuring that no one falls behind their studies. It also gives them more opportunity to discuss their project and share relevant files online. However, abundant study materials on online has shortened children’s study time and has increased the hours of online activities and computer games. There is a proposition that excessive use of computers at home by our children is increasing and is damaging our children’s health. The prevalence of computer games and internet services has made obesity to increase significantly. The obesity in UK is currently a serious matter and has grown in the past 20 years. The computers are very addictive device, where children can easily fall for and spend their whole day sitting front of the computer.
