It has been said that when hearing about depressing or sad things it makes others sad or depressed as well. So in a way a depressed person who reads this book can in fact become even more depressed. All in all this book adds to teen depression, adds to teenage pregnancy and adds to the usage of vulgar language amongst teens. It’s as if they had no conscience. Narcissism is among the risk factors commonly seen in mass murderers. “Narcissism is a condition defined mostly disablingly low self-esteem, requiring the sufferer to seek almost constant recognition and reward.” (Kluger 169) This plays a major role in almost every mass murderer. Other factors such as drug and alcohol abuse, history of sexual and physical abuse, depression, or people who were powerless play a role as well. “These are people who are already angry, and when things don’t go the way they want them to, they personalize it.
Depression is when you are experiencing one of those feelings that won’t go away. Having this feeling will affect your day to day life, school, work, sleep, social life etc. Most commonly people can’t control their negative thoughts, which makes there depression get even worse as they get even more negative thoughts. Loss of interest is another symptom to depression, in most situations the person with depression won’t notice this but their friends/family will. There is also a large amount of self-loathing this is when you’re feeling worthless or guilty and are also harshly criticizing your mistake, choices or fault.
Bullying does not just affect the victim, inadvertently; it affects everyone the victim is associated with too. Bullying should be seen as a crime because it ruins the targets chances at a normal and happy childhood, which everyone is rightfully entitled to, it destroys children’s and adolescents self-esteem, puts them into a depression, they may stop attending school which will in turn lower their grades, and it can even lead to self-harm and suicide. Usually children look forward to making friends at school and playing games with others, but if a child is bullied, they then become an outcast and slowly start reproaching socializing with society. The ones who have been bullied are usually the more subdued and quiet children. They probably do not speak in class or in a group and usually tend to avoid team sports and activities because they do not want to be chosen last.
The victim is often accused of being too sensitive or making a big deal of the situation. Verbal abuse is manipulative and controlling and is intended to attack the nature and abilities of the targeted victim. Over time, the victim self-esteem is deflated and they become self-conscious around the abuser. The thing with verbal abuse is that may start with simple put-downs or jokes but usually escalates into physical abuse. There are several
Self-harm has many long term affects which can be very serious. If a person is misusing substances, they may become dependent on it, and suffer symptoms when they do not take any of the substance. It may also affect an adult’s mental health, leaving psychological and emotional scars, because they have felt so worthless and poorly of themselves that they will always carry this memory with them. If the adult was cutting themselves or burning themselves, they will carry scars from this. These scars may lower self-esteem in the long term as the individual may feel ashamed, also other people may see these scars causing embarrassment or bringing up bad memories so they can never forget.
Individuals punching other individuals will lead to having bruises, biting and slapping will leave marks on the body. Individuals exhibiting untypical self-harm, unexplained fractures, unexplained cuts or scratches for example when teenagers that are depressed often cut themselves thinking it will cool them down. An individual appears scared or subdued in the presence of specific individual’s also sudden or unexplained incontinence. Psychological abuse also referred to as emotional abuse or mental abuse is a form of abuse considered by an individual subjecting or exposing to behaviour that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. Psychological abuse may include: Threats of harm, threats of leaving the individual, humiliation, bullying, harassment and disengagement or withdrawal from services or support networks.
People often believe that bullies are individual sadists in society, who seek pleasure from other’s despair. Due to this common misconception, people fail to understand that an average citizen can become a bully based on the circumstantial factors in an atmosphere (Zimbardo, Lucifer). Various psychological experiments have proven that bullying occurs due to the presence of specific social factors in an environment. Anonymity is a primary social factor which promotes bullying, since it creates a lack of empathy in an atmosphere. The ignorance of authority figures is another social factor which causes bullying since it creates an acceptable environment for victimization.
The socio-economic inequalities get widened and social cohesion and solidarity are eroded. This results in wastage of human talent and resources. Young adult’s arte the victims of these acts and unfortunately suffer in the long run mentally. This leads to them not coming out about their sexual orientation and sometimes led to harmful acts such as the recent suicides that have been caused due to discrimination towards their sexuality. This prevents them from reaching the mass’ sought of the American dream and leads to negative acts instead and detrimental
Our community is affected in a negative way because of this disorder. In childhood ages, bullies have been introduced to feed off of the shyness and embarrassment of others. As the children become older, they are more conscious about their physical appearance. They feel as if they are not welcome to privileges of others just because they look differently. Even adults are greatly affected by this disorder.
