Bigotry has been a part of our society throughout the past. People may say that the world has improved over the years but still this day bigotry and prejudice still subsists today. Through different forms of writing methods it is expressed that bigotry is still an issue in today’s civilization. For example, the song “Changes” by Tupac Shakur, exhibits racism and all the various aspects of it. “Changes” was released after Tupac’s demise on his album Greatest Hits. Encouraging peace and equal opportunity in the United States, this song is also representative of the fight that the African American race is compelled to face everyday. When he sings, “I made a G today but you made it in a sleazy way. Sellin’ crack to the kids. I gotta get paid.” It shows what the unfortunate people have to do in order to survive. Even though people know it is the morally wrong and dangerous occupation to take up, they sell drugs to get by because there are no other opportunities. Some communities are so torn that legal economic opportunities to support families are nearly nonexistent. Minorities are often expected to do better for themselves, but some think that it is easier for themselves to go out and steal rather then getting a job. Through Shakur’s lyrics he is making a statement that this is not the way to live life. Minorities must rise above the obstacles and out of the vicious cycle of poverty that wreaks havoc on many urban communities. Shakur expresses ways to accomplish peace in society, through his lyrics. It also made a reference to how there is war in the Middle East, still till this day there is an ongoing conflict/war. For example, war on terrorism and the involvement with the United States with the Middle Eastern there is nothing being done to help the poor, and we cannot stop war without eradication its basis and hatred. Just this year, approximately $400 billion was spent on the war in Iraq. A fraction of that is all the impoverished need to make livers better for themselves. We are seeing all this monetary loss, which could in the use of helping the poor to make our society into a better place for the future, so we can abolish the poverty and crime that people go through on a daily basis. He also states how the police are tracking down drugs, which is a good thing, but he does not want the police to grab a hold of him because he’s the only doing what is necessary so that he can survive in this deprived community. Rather, Shakur advocates a “war on poverty” which he implies would also take away the need for many blacks to deal drugs. He also states that since he is black, he has to make a living by doing what ever is necessary to survive. In this case it might even include selling drugs, even if he does not want to. He wants to see changes, but yet he does not see any further step being taken at this
