101) This is significant because Freak is acting very brave against Max’s dad while everybody else is scared of him. This is the reason why Freak should be the hero in Freak the Mighty. Last but not least, Freak is the hero because he is helpful. Freak is helpful because he restored Max’s confidence and knowledge by pushing Max to his limits, and by teaching him how to read better. Also, he is helpful because he gave Max a positive point of view.
This paper will tell examples and reasoning of why Beowulf is all of these things. An epic hero is one that stands out among all the rest. Even after hearing many stories of Grendel’s wrath, he still planned to fight the best without any hesitation. The reader would believe this is an example of a very brave fighter. Beowulf shows his abilities and proves brave enough as he resolves to kill the “lady monster”, (excerpt page 40).
This character is brought upon conflicts and challenges by inhuman creatures that threaten his existence and the perseverance of his culture. In the epic poem, Beowulf battles a monster named Grendel. This adversary and his conflicts are an allusion to the war against the fall of the Anglo-Saxon society, their values and morals. In some ways, Beowulf reminds the reader of the heroes in today's world. He has superior physical strength, he is ethical, and he risks his life to save others whose lives are in danger.
Whitaker, Ronell2014-10-03T14:02:00Make sure that anytime you are saying something belongs to Dean you use the possessive: “Dean’s passion” Dean’s passion for superhero saves him from becoming something terrible which is himself. Dean fears that he’ll become a child molester because he was molested, but Dean quickly gets over this phobia when he does research on molesters. Dean motivations for all this is wanting to be a better person. Even though Dean had various motivation’s for wanting to overcome his phobia there are two that standout the most to me. The first one is the fact that he was molested when he was a child.
The revenge he sought on the suitors must have had invoked great fear in him because there were so many suitors. Odysseus carried out the plan anyway, showed his bravery, and put aside his fears. Hrothgar, decides to build a type of sanctuary for his warriors that he names "Heorot". This is in the first main passage of the story of Beowulf and this is the first place we find the theme of internal versus external evil. The passage implies that internal evil will ultimately destroy the hall, rather than being attacked by monsters: "Not reckless of promise, the rings he dealt, treasure at banquet: there towered the hall, high, gabled wide, the hot surge waiting of furious flame. "(28) This foreshadows the internal evil that will destroy the Danes. Another theme in this story is the theme of men versus monsters.
Bee`s confidence and open mind to the large world around us causes Jack to be self conscience because he knows he should be more like her in that regard, but isn’t. Orest sits in a cage of poisonous snakes showing utter disrespect and conquering the possibility of death. Being in touch with death is what Jack admires about Hitler. Hitler devalues the worth of just one life because of the mass killings that he does. Jack’s sub conscience believes that if he can slightly devalue his own life to himself than he will not
"(Beowulf line 464-466) Beowulf’s unusual and courageous method of killing Grendel demonstrates his bravery and physical strength. Before, Unferth had taunted Beowulf about his foolish bravery, but when he and all the rest of the Geats saw that Beowulf’s strength and power were worth boasting about, they were humbled. To prove Beowulf was powerful, he hung Grendel’s arm, claw, and
Although the characters compare in their strength and loyalty and in their representation of a force greater than themselves, they contrast when it comes to bravery, their reasons for fighting, and the force they each represent. Beowulf and Grendel have a number of comparisons that can be made. They are both strong. In the poem, Grendel shows his strength by bursting open a chained door of the mead hall and killing many men at once by himself. Then, Beowulf shows his strength by killing Grendel with simply his bare hands.
In a tale of epic proportions, where gruesome monsters meet valiant heroes, it is a surprise that human nature is a topic that is expressed so excellently in Beowulf. The reader is introduced to multi-dimensional characters that possess god-like strengths, but also typical human-like mistakes. These mistakes are what make Beowulf so relevant and relatable to the common man and are what acknowledge the age old saying that nobody’s perfect. Even Beowulf, the superhuman man who could kill a monster with his bare hands is susceptible to these weaknesses. Human flaws are portrayed numerous times through characters in the poem, by both monster and by man.
