The government claims that education gives the Native children a better chance of success, while the real purpose of the school was to mould their behavior, believes and lifestyle in a particular way. Ideally, they would pass their adopted lifestyle onto their children and Natives will be assimilated within a few generations. However, the residential school experience was disturbing for many First Nation people. It remains painful and still affects their life. One of the major problems is that aboriginal people attending residential school often have parenting difficulties.
This can cause feelings of jealousy as they fight for the attention of their parents. It may even make the child have bad behaviour as they feel it is the only way for their parents to notice them. The child may also feel pushed out as other family members who are visiting focus all their attention on to the new baby too. 3) Moving home/school – Changing schools and homes can affect children and young people in different ways. Children who are outgoing and have confidence will find the transition easier as they may make friends and settle in at a faster pace.
2.1 Describe with examples the kinds of influences that affect children and young people’s development including: • Background • Health • Environment Background A young child especially is mostly influences by their parent or parents. This is because they learn from them and are a huge part of their lives. Each child will have a different childhood to others, as each individual is different. Parents have a strong bond with their own child and want only the best in life for them, this could be to want them to have the best childhood possible, watch them grow and exceed with career expectations. Also to meet new people, friends and develop new relationships.
Children are hindered by these kinds of schools, teachers and peers lay a big role in the children’s lives. Some teachers are there for the income it will bring into their house hold and not the well-being of the child and students are pressued by their peers into thinking that education is lame and for losers. In most cases this is what children of low income go through but not all. Many may not realize that the surroundings of children may sometimes affect their future. Being raised in a low income area surrounded by people living the same lifestyle as you as if struggling is the norm of society.
Resistant Attachment Resistant attachment is the attachment pattern characterizing infants who remain close to the parent and fail to explore before separation, then are usually distressed when the parent leaves. When the parent returns the infant combines clinginess with angry, resistive behavior. This theory of resistant attachment really interested me because I have witnessed it plenty of times with my boyfriend’s nephew, Noah, and his sister-in-law, Elizavette. When first reading this chapter I thought they had a secure attachment but once I dug a little deeper and we discussed it in class I realized that it was not secure at all. Noah as an infant was very attached to his mother, Elizavette.
They do well communicating with their parents because they are home all day with them. However, when it comes to other children they freeze up. Socializing with other children is important also. If they don't know how to communicate, they will have a hard time socializing with other children. They need to learn how to communicate with children their own ages.
There are always reasons for a child to drop out of school, knowing these reasons will help one be able to help the client better. According to Mark Schafer, and the United States Department of Agriculture, “Family, school and community factors affect educational outcomes such as dropout rates” (Schafer, M. 2006). Every high school dropout has a reason, this reason could be a family situation, such as becoming pregnant while still in school, or the neighborhood the person is living in is not a good environment for learning. These and many other factors must be taken into account. When working with the high school dropout, one will want to start by getting a background history on the person.
•Starting school /Moving from one class/school to another Children who are starting Preschool may have never left their parents/carers side before. This may leave them very uncertain and upset at the initial separation this may cause distress for them and for any other children. New
To be a perfect parent to your kids is have a good back ground. If the kid father/mother is a criminal and/or is at jail, when the kid (kids) goes to school they get bullies saying “Oh that kid`s father/mother is at jail he must be stupid” Basically the kid will have a hard time at school and not having friends. Additionally because the kid had a bad life, he will become like his father/mother. This true because it happens to most kids whose parents have bad reputation. This also works on the kids name when the parents give it to them.
Both Baby and Anne are very smart, but Baby isn’t recognized for it. Instead she is put into a practical learning class. “I didn’t bother explaining that I’d been on the honor roll at my last school. That I had to go to a program for kids who had learning disabilities made me sad beyond words.” (Page 202, O’Neil) Baby deserved more, considering she was on the honor roll. But because she had to go to a detention centre, the social worker basically forced her into going to this class.
