Despite the lack of food and terrible living conditions, Asha had been working hard since she was a child. Her ambition to live a better life was sparked by the hardships she encountered, and planted in her mind as she endeavored to do her best at work. Years later, Asha married an alcoholic man with little ambition and then started her life in a slum near Mumbai called Annawadi, a place full of poor scavengers that lived in little huts with small incomes from trash picking.
