Selfless Service is to put the welfare of the nation, the Army, and subordinates before you. Everyone must work together to complete tasks. So without a leader meeting these value things in the Army will not be getting done. Honor is to live up to these values. Honor provides a moral compass for character and personal conduct in the Army.
The work of the U.S. Army is a complex combination of missions, tasks and responsibilities. A soldiers work entails building one assignment onto another. We fulfill our obligations as a part of a unit every time we resist the temptation to take shortcuts that might undermine the integrity of the final product. Respect- Treating people as they should be treated. Respect is what allows us to appreciate the best in other people.
Following order falls under Duty, Respect and Integrity because it is a soldier’s duty to obey the orders of his/her non-commissioned and commissioned officers. It is part of respect because you are respecting your higher up when the give you an order and you follow it. It is part of Integrity because when you follow the orders given to you, you are doing what is right both legally and morally. Following orders is a big part of military function and history. Following orders allows the U.S Army to function proper order and bearing.
The Soldiers will ensure that the mission is accomplished because they do not want to let the superior down. They know that they are a vital member of the team and that their superior will always lookout for them. An obligation of every Soldier is to protect the Constitution of the United States, fulfill one’s obligations as a citizen, and comply with local, state, and federal laws. Every Soldier must keep in mind the best interest of the Army when conducting personal and official business. Knowing the difference to conduct oneself both on and off-duty and preserve personal and organization’s values is important for every soldier to practice. Personal values are among the most important value that the military possess. Personal values drive the military in so many ways and differences that at any moment situations may arise to give different impressions.
Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline and customs. Courteous behavior provides a basis for developing good human relations. The distinction between civilian and military courtesy is that military courtesy was developed in a military atmosphere and has become an integral part of serving in uniform. When a person acts with courtesy toward another, the courtesy is likely to be returned. We are courteous to our seniors because we are aware of their greater responsibilities and authority.
The word "Uniform" in the code's title refers to the congressional intent to make the justice system in the military uniform or consistent among the armed services. In the Uniform Code of Military Justice is following orders. There are many reasons why a soldier should follow all of the orders they are given because every one of them is important in any circumstance. An order is a task given to a soldier that has to be done in a certain period of time in an efficient manner. There are many reasons of why it is important for a soldier to follow the orders they are given, discipline, an effective combatant, and basic soldiering skills are all examples.
To me this value is the most important. I have learned firsthand that you must have integrity at all times no matter what the situation is. Integrity is defined as moral soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive; - used especially with reference to the fulfillment of contracts, the discharge of agencies, trusts, and the like; uprightness; rectitude. Integrity defines who you are and your character as a human being as well as a Soldier. Integrity is very important at all times; I have learned this the hard way.
The Army serves under civilian authority that trusts the Army to defend the American people and their Constitutional rights. As a direct result of serving the people, soldiers must maintain and adhere to high ethical and moral standings. Soldiers must encompass the belief the individual is called to duty and not simply a paycheck. They must desire the need to lead others and be professional. Profession of Arms has five key elements which are used to continue the profession of the military force.
Integrity and personal courage are two very important qualities to have while serving in the military, you must always maintain these qualities to not only survive the military but also to make and keep friends along with earning their respect and keeping that also so that they know you are trustworthy and can keep your word. Having integrity ties back into being accountable, also being accountable for your action accepting that you fucked up and that you are willing to admit it and keep moving this also ties into having personal courage being able to stand up and have the ability to own up to the fact that you were wrong.
