ABC broadcast released a new romantic drama, ‘Selfie’. Eliza, the heroine of this drama, a is superstar in the social media world and has 263.000 followers who follow her selfies everyday.Not only does Eliza take selfies in the drama,but many people also take selfies and share them with their family, friends or people they have never met before on social networks. According to Jerry Saltz’s article, “Art at Arm’s length : A History of the Selfie ” the Selfie is new art form as a social interaction and a new genre of self- portrait. As Saltz says the primary purpose of the selfie is to be seen here and now by other people in social networks ,and it’s also a tool of communication. Saltz also presented the third meaning of selfie, which implies another meaning that is not directly revealed at the first look on its entire context. Saltz says that some selfies grab an extraordinary moment and also allow the viewers to create their own meaning that the makers don’t intent. In addition,Saltz indicates that some selfies are taken in order to draw a shock reaction from their viewers and the three characteristics of the third meaning by Saltz are well illustrated by the astronaut Aki Hoshide and Ferdinand Puente’s selfies, two examples provided in Saltz’s article. To start with, Saltz claims that some selfies capture extraordinary moment. Although Hoshide’s selfie doesn’t present any features of him, it marvelously reflects Earth and the spaceship off of his space helmet. On the other hand, Puentes took a unusual selfie when his small plane crashed on the ocean and started to sink. He might have taken this selfie to capture his last moment. His fearful expression and the horizon line in his selfie, taken when his plane was falling down, capture the terrifying moment.
