On the Restoration Love Environmental Tour, my particular spot examined the Sanford Natural area as well as the Baker Woodlot. The woodlots are located within the 5,200 acres of Michigan State University. Natural forest areas have been extremely important to the natural environment throughout the state of Michigan through both the upper and lower peninsulas. Throughout the history of the state, forest areas have provided extreme benefits to the economic status of the state, however due to extreme deforestation from selfish acts of mankind, approximately only half of the original 36.4 million acres remain. Original forest development was founded through primary succession during early post glacial vegetation, which created increased nutrients
Johnson doubled the amount of money being poured into the office of Economic Opportunity to improve the vile conditions in the Appalachian Mountain range. Also passed were Medicare laws which provided health insurance for both the elderly and the poor. While his policies “to give almost half a million underprivileged Americans…” assistance were beneficial, much of the assistance was taken from the program to help fuel the Vietnam War (Doc. B), (Doc. E).
In the AAA’s first year the supply of food outstripped the demand. The AAA could raise prices by paying farmers to destroy crops, milk and livestock. To control production and farm prices the AAA paid farmers to leave some of their land uncultivated. For example if the markets demand for wheat and cotton decreased the AAA would give money to farmers as subsides which are grants of money given to farmers or any other
Task A: The growth early in the United States was influenced by a number of geographical factors. Two geographical factors that had contributed to the development and expansion of the United States are the results of once promising farm land from the Dust Bowl and the increasing population from the Gold Rush. The Dust Bowl was initiated from once promising farm land by over aggressive farmers. In 1930, the Southern Plains was the most productive to be as a farmer. After World War I, farmers were paid record prices for wheat.
More than 30 million people including the indigenous people count on the forest for food, agriculture, clothing, and traditional medicines (Amazon). The truth is that some of the indigenous tribes in South America will go extinct along with their unique language due to deforestation. The amazon is home to some of the most stunning animals such as, the gorilla, jaguar, pink dolphin, the macaw, and many others. Deforestation of the amazon is annihilating the homes of these marvelous creatures. Animal habitats are also being destroyed or altered due to deforestation.
- A scientific study said it was a once-in-700-years track. - The scope and cost of recovery was estimated at $50 billion, compared to $55 million for recovery of Hurricane Irene that occurred in August 2011. II. Hurricane Sandy was one of the most devastating things to happen to my home state. So many of my family and friends’ homes were completely destroyed.
This act gave farmers subsidies for voluntarily reducing there crops sizes and spacing there planting times. The National Recovery Administration (NRA) was used to revive the industries by raising the workers wages but decreasing the hours worked. This cut all excess production so they would be a greater demand. Even though this act was ruled unconstitutional, it had many lasting affects on America. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was a very inspirational act that led to the emphasis of using the rivers resources for common gain.
The Dust Bowl of the 1930s lasted about a decade and spread from 100 counties to 756 counties, from 10 states to 19 states. The Great Plains suffered the same like Ireland in the 1800s with The Great Famine. People suffered from starvation. Along with draught and heat, the dust storms what we call “Black Blizzards” came. In November 1933 in South Dakota, the first appeared.
Potatoes are Ontario’s largest fresh vegetable crop and second only to tomatoes as a processing crop. Potatoes help the economy tremendously, making over $200 million a year. The potato industry is very large, and to keep this industry going is all the workers and what their role accounts for. The potato industry has jobs for people such as the people who work at the farms, such as the farmers themselves who help harvest the crop, along with the people who package them up, who then load them onto vehicles, driving them to the businesses that owns the rail cars or the massive trucks, who then load them on and operate the railcars and drive the trucks, all the way to the factories, while has a significant amount of role to play, such as unload the potato’s and checking the potatoes to see if they are approved for packaging, processing them into the final product (French fries, chips etc..) they are then packaged by machines and then put on various types of transportation, depending on where they’re going (If overseas, plane or boat, If in Canada or U.S train or rail car) then after, they are then brought to the retailers and are dealt with unpacking, cooking,
According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, there are over a million deer in our state today and are reaching a saturation point in many parts of the Commonwealth. More people are killed as a result of deer and vehicle collisions each year than by dogs, snakes, sharks, mountain lions, bears and alligators combined. On average, 130 people are killed, making deer the most deadly animal in the United States (Thomas). Just in Fort Thomas, between 2003 and 2006 there were 47 deer and vehicle collisions reported. This results in a yearly average of 11.75 deer and vehicle collisions there.
