A woman can have the same degree as a man but will not be offered the same job as him, simply because of her sex. Even though policies were adopted to prohibit sex discrimination, it failed to help women who are at more senior levels of a company. Many people wonder if their gender determines how successful they will become in their career. Does gender bias still exists in the workplace today? Does sexism exists?
Tokenism and Women’s Promotion in the Entertainment Business Tokenism is preventing women’s promotion in the entertainment industry. Tokenism in the workplace has been an issue for women ever since women started working in male-dominated jobs. This is also seen in the entertainment industry where it is also a male dominated sector and women are being tokens in expense of their gender and desire to be an artist. But, when women are being chosen for the same roles, the same sound and look, their opportunities for promotion are being prevented tremendously, limiting them to do only certain jobs. Media is how we change the view of the world and when women are constantly generalized and understated as such, not only are the women who are in the entertainment industry are affected, but so is the way the society looks at women is.
This paper will explain some key factors in the views of women all around the world; why women’s progress in achieving leadership roles has stopped making progress, explaining the main causes of women’s leadership roles, and offering interesting solutions that can empower women to achieve their full potential. Beginning in the early 1800s, many women took a leading role in the struggle for black rights. Black men had more rights than these black women and black men were not willing to let black women have an equal place at the table. This eventually abolished slavery then, led to the suffragist movement, which led to women winning the right to vote, and many other things. This led women’s rights movement of the 60’s and still occurs today.
Some people even go as far to try to prove that women get better treatment in some cases because of the sexual status. This societal status is shown in situations such as jobs or even sibling rivalries. For example, if there are 35 men and 1 woman applying for a job the men will automatically assume that the woman is going to be offered the job for the mere reason that she is a woman. More times then not the men making this assumption know none of the qualifications of the woman. When there is a brother and sister argument and the female gets her way it is a common response of the male to comment that , she only got her way because she is a girl.
Along with the hiring problems, the corporation also has a problem with promotions. It appears that the company only promotes based on convenience. The report that Pamela Gillis had made indicated that the company “look[ed] like a stone wall for women and minority professionals.” The case study also points out a particular event where a young woman with an accounting degree was hired in and almost forced to be a data entry clerk. The reasoning for this was because the company’s application for new hire form was discriminatory towards applicants with higher education. Pamela had appeared to do trend analysis in her report showing that there was a three year turnover rate among female and black employees.
I am really against this; I never knew this went on in the world until I watched this documentary. I am very shocked at how societies value women. The clitoris is sensitive that is where women receive some pleasure at. This shows how men value women, as if they are not worth anything. Some men will not marry a woman unless she has been ex-sized.
In 1990, 50 percent of White women had incomes below 646 per month, African-American women had incomes below 419 per month, and Hispanic women had incomes below 426 per month. With a poverty line for seniors of 437.91 per month) in 1990, it is clear that many women live near or below the poverty line. Therefore, they are at risk for psychological
Whether they know it or not, the jokers that make these comments are sexually harassing their victims and no matter what gender, they have an impact. When asked to picture sexual harassment, many people would think of old, creepy men in vans with tinted windows. However, this is not the case, so what is verbal sexual harassment and why is it underrated? Sexually demeaning comments are a form of verbal sexual harassment that makes an individual feel uncomfortable or offended. TeensHealth online magazine says, “Like anyone who's being bullied, people who are sexually bullied or harassed can feel a great deal of emotional stress if the situation continues without relief” (“Sexual…Bullying” 1).
For example, your body regulates its temperature in order to ensure that you do not become too hot or too cold. Also, drive tends to increase of a period of time. In this case, it was Pickton’s sex drive that led him to murder of forty nine women’s. I think that Pickton was not receiving enough attention in his sexual life since many of the women’s were prostitute and there would have not been a need for him to meet them, if he was satisfied with his sex life. Pickton sex drive is what initiated this story.
In order for this act to be considered sexual harassment, the person been harass must acknowledge the harasser that his or her act is inappropriate and unacceptable. And if that person (the harasser) continues, than a sexual harassment complaint should be filed against that person. The issue of sexual harassment is that both men and women are victim of it in the workplace. But from my past experienced and my personal connection to this topic, majority of sexual harassment victims are women which I think it is not fair at all and something needs done about. My first personal connection to this topic is dated back to 2002 when my little sister was sexually harassed by a male worker at work and the second time was early this year when a co-worker of mine was also harassed by a male worker.
