Every stage in life is perceived differently and has its own unique challenges. Psychologists often refer to the period of adolescence as one of the most difficult stages of development that individuals will endure. Adolescence is the phase when children move from dependency to autonomy and learn how to make decisions. Bullying and peer pressure may be difficult in this stage and may cause many influences on adolescent decisions. The pressure to succeed that parents also put on youth can become overwhelming. It is during adolescence where society must leave behind the comfort and protection of childhood and enter a period of new challenges that must be overcome to reach maturity. Pressure to succeed can be found in a couple areas for the average teen, like in sports and education. This pressure to succeed can come from many different reasons such as the parents can't afford to send their child to a secondary education. The need to get a job so they push their kid in the academics in school or their sport so they can get a scholarship and get the education for free. Another is that the parents just want bragging rights to say their child is the best. Some teens can handle this pressure and succeed even their parents expectations but others can’t and they crack under the pressure. Some adolescents feel that they will never be good enough and develop psychological problems as they age due to the lack of self confidence. It can also begin with the child making bad choices once they can't reach their parents expectations and may start taking a bad path to escape the disappointment of their parents. Kids can choose the wrong friends when the parents focus on one child achievements and not on the other which can give the child a feeling of that they are unwanted and go to a crowd where they are accepted for who they are. Everyone should want to be in a crowd where they are excepted, but people showed aim for a crowd that will also help push them towards greater things to help them out in life and succeed in what they do. The pressure to succeed can be just as destructive to a young person as being bullied is, because they lose confidence in themselves and everyone needs to have some self confidence and self esteem to strive in this world.
