Chronic low back pain may call for the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy as well as physical therapy and medication. Stress comes from any situation in which we feel frustrated, angry or anxious. Anxiety, on the other hand, comes from apprehension or fear. Stress and Anxiety, in a nutshell, stem from our bodies reaction to fear or change. Those who suffer from stress can understand their condition and find resolution in the mediums of therapy or changing certain aspects to their daily lives. Anxiety on the other hand is not something that can be treated easily as there is the potential to have larger psychological or physicals reasons for its manifestation.
A study was conducted by Dr. Graham Emslie, a professor at UT Southwestern, within the last decade that included 334 teenagers, all of whom suffered from major depression. In the study, the researchers looked at the types of treatment each participant was receiving in order to treat his or her depression. It was concluded from the study that those participants that were unresponsive to their initial antidepressant “responded when they switched to a different antidepressant and participated in cognitive behavioral therapy” (Drug Week, 2008). Using these results Emslie concluded that “medication and therapy do not have to be independent of each other” (Drug Week, 2008). Other long term effects could be a loss of mobility, depression, anxiety, changes in behaviour, behavioural issues and negative relationships. Many adults experiencing abuse are isolated. Individuals who abuse adults often threaten, harass, or intimidate them.
There is often a re-distribution of responsibilities to fill the gap. Most households are able to accommodate for the absence with moderate to little stress. The personnel can often experience feelings of worthlessness that can then lead to depression post-deployment. In order to successfully help a client cope with a crisis, these three components must be recognized so that the counselor can help the client
