The Great Debaters To be admirable someone would have to think that you're are arousing or that you deserve their respect. When I think of the word admirable the person that comes to my mind is Melvin B. Tolson. He was a well educated African American during the 1930s. He taught speech and English at Wiley College, and also was the coach for the debate team. I find Mervin to be admirable because he always works hard, he never stops no matter what obstacles comes his way, and always kind. Getting a debate team ready isn't an easy thing to do. You have to make sure your members are capable to argue about any given topic. That's exactly what Melvin did; he had try outs for the debate team at his own house. He could of had the try outs at any other given location but he decided to have it at his own place. He also set aside time so that he can have these auditions. Being in this organization created some problems for Melvin. One example is when he was at one of the communist meetings. James Farmer jr ended up following him to one of the meetings and was almost caught by the police when the cops raided the place. The only reason why Farmer jr didn't get captured was because Melvin helped him escape. When the cops was convinced that Melvin was the leader of the organization they had cops constantly watch them. One of the debate members left. Also Melvin's job and career was on the line as well, but that didn't stop him from getting his debate team to his goal.
