He is a perfect leader. While it cannot be found out for sure, Coach Boone can be classified under the characteristic idea of management, that Leaders are Born. The type of leadership he displays cannot be taught, he is able to bring them together at a camp he sends them on, two different types of groups to act as one, to respect each other and play together. He shows power in the movie, he has a large capacity to influence others. Using his power, he gets the players to conform and forget how others think they are supposed to act towards each other.
The only reason why I had stayed at the school for so long was because of the sparring that we practiced there. I could fight all out in an environment where it was perfectly okay to hurt the other opponent, this gave me a great feeling that I am now always craving for. Every single day, I practice my basics moves. I spend about an hour just practicing martial arts each day. But at my house we don’t have a punching bag, so to substitute for it; I condition, or harden my hands by taking a wet newspaper, then placing it on a brick wall to punch.
The whole team including Henry used the five factors of management when preparing for their big debate against Harvard University. They planned their strategy, organized how they would deliver their debates, they directed themselves and each other, controlling, and finally when they won they celebrated and evaluated their debate. Along with Henry and the other team members their coach was their main leader and inspirer. He had personally problems with the community and was actually arrested. Even though he had all these things going on in his life he still was there to
Firstly, his character traits including his oratory skills, his Nobel Peace Prize and his famous I Have A Dream speech were instrumental in his success as the face of the Civil Rights campaign. His oratory skills was the key component that got Martin Luther King famous, when he moved to Montgomery it was this skill that got him to the top so quickly. These made him a successful leader because it allowed him to motivationally communicate with his fellow African American followers. An example of great motivation in his speech would be his ‘I Have a Dream Speech’ at the March on Washington in 1963, this was his most famous speech, he spoke to at least 250,000 supporters and motivated them completely and got the civil rights act that followed was a true reminder of his skill. However his leadership skills were strained when it came to the Birmingham, Alabama protest that was a huge disappointment.
I had to write down goals so that he could monitor my progress as well as push me to never settle for mediocrity. Coaches of athletic teams are almost always transactional leaders because they motivate their players by promoting winning the game as the reward. By drilling trust and faith in the system of coaching, often coaches can achieve more because they players are willing to do what it takes to win the game. Coaches must slowly build confidence with eventually attain the goal. I think that Coach K is a prime example of a transactional leader.
It was a very prestigious school known for controlling boys that were very difficult to work with. Even though their methods were very tough, it worked. Revere came out of that program knowing anything and everything about discipline, but his wandering and curious mind was never kept from exploring. His teachers always taught him to be curious. Essentially, his teachers made him a lifelong learner.
team didn’t share the same goal in the beginning, they each had their own personal goals, such as to get the assigned position that they wanted. Third I asked myself what the persistence of the effort was. Again in the beginning it was low, but as the team began to accept one another that changed. Coach Boone’s persistence never changed though from the beginning he was persistent on getting the team to accept one another and to win. For example, in one scene in the movie, Coach Boone worked them hard at boot camp; he set strict rules to break down the team’s resistance.
I felt that way until my Instructor broke the movie down for me. My Master Gunnery Sergeant had us watch the movie a scene at a time. After one scene, you would talk about the characters in it and what types of leadership qualities they had and what kind of leadership they failed at. Once each scene was broken down, you could really get a better general sense of the leaders in the movie that were doing the right thing. Here are just a few analyses that we learned in class: Coach Boone was a great leader from the sense that he brought the team together and created such a strong bond between all the players, but he also failed in other aspects of leadership.
Garvey was also a firm believer in the “Black is Beautiful” ideal. Marcus Garvey was very popular among the people because of he was charitable, a good leader, and enthusiastic. He was unpopular with the people for his radical thoughts and actions. Marcus Garvey prided himself on helping Blacks across the world. The UNIA’s main focus was to do the greatest work for the general uplift of the Blacks of the world.
Noel Hosmillo Per. 3- Ms. Hawkins The Great Debaters The “The Great Debaters” is a story about a group of debate team of African American College that became the undefeated after they won the national championships over Harvard because of being taught under a brilliant and ambitious debate coach named Melvin Tolson. The character that I liked in the movie is James Farmer, Jr. At a young age, he already went to college and was also able to become a part of the debate team. At first he was afraid of making a public speech in front of a full audience because he gets nervous from time to time. But when it came to the debate against the Harvard, Farmer proved himself to be quite a motivational speaker when it came to debating about civil disobedience.
