Sample Case Study Analysis Paper 1: A Tale of Two Coaches Theresa M. Trejo Grand Canyon University: LDR 600 10/18/12 Sample Case Study Analysis Paper 1: A Tale of Two Coaches “ Great coaches flex their system, but not their philosophy. All great coaches have a coaching philosophy. They know it takes skill in all phases of the game, but it’s their philosophy that informs their focus. Some coaches always have great rebounding teams; some focus on a fast break offense; some are defensive minded. Yet, if their current lineup gives them different strengths, they may flex their system or make adjustments to best take advantage of the current talent.
Lesnar told him that he would put on a show for him and bring good publicity and crowds to the sport. Dana said he would give him a chance and if he didn’t impress him that was the end for his UFC career. His first fight was against Frank Mir. He got off to a good start pounding away at Mir’s body and head with his size 4XL gloves that the UFC specially ordered for him. It was a good start for him until he made a rookie mistake and left his knee wide open for Frank to take advantage and put him in a kneebar and make him submit.
I understand he wanted to encourage his players to perform their best by putting forth their best effort. Sometimes people need an extra push to do their best, not abuse. Bob Knight not only physically abused his players, but emotionally abused them too. He was the opposite of John Wooden. Wooden and Knight had a great winning record.
"There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant, no Dwayne Wade if there wasn't Michael Jordan first.” (Windhorst) This man was giving up a number he wore since high school, and this is usually harder for players because they take pride in their number. This did not matter to James. He deeply cared about this Legend’s impact on the sport, and wanted to commemorate what he did. That is what nice people do, they understand their roots, and give credit to those before them. Whether it was furthering kids education, addressing kids dropping out, or paying homage to Jordan, LeBron continuously displayed his niceness to others.
Fist Stick Knife Gun, an autobiography by Geoffrey Canada and “The Wave”, a nonfiction movie by Morton Rhue deal with the issue of influence. They both suggest that teenagers are easily persuaded into thinking a certain way; When adults tell them it is the right thing to do they catch on. Mr. Ross in “The Wave” taught his students that discipline and community were all you needed to have a strong group of people. Geoffrey Canada from Fist Stick Knife Gun thought that violence was the only answer as a child because that is all he ever knew. In both situations peoples thinking is influenced greatly by others around them.
Up until this point in the film, the low angle shot had been used only on Coach Boone, as he is the natural leader. Whenever he is saying something meaningful and inspirational to pull the team together, such as the scene at the training camp on the site of the Battle of Gettysburg, he is in low angle. By showing Blue in low angle, the director is showing that the young players are rising to the challenge and taking on real leadership roles. This will be important if racial tension is to be dealt
During the film, the drum line captain, Sean, says to Devan “You're the best, Devon! But when we're on the field, nobody hears you! They hear the band.” This is a perfect example of how the rules of Leadership apply to a team. “You must learn how to follow before you can lead.” Devan was a self-centered and cocky drummer. He thought just because he had more talent than everyone else in the band, he could fight the war on his own.
Writing Assignment 2 – Movie Analysis Remember the Titans Phillip Lowe East Central University Remember the Titans The movie that I chose to do my paper over is Remember the Titans. I chose this movie because it is one of my favorite movies of all time. I will start off by talking about the scene that impacted me the most. The scene that impacted me the most is when Blue and some of his teammates went up to Coach Boone and told him that they were going to warm up a little different that night. At this point I think that they were starting to build their confidence, playing together and with them being the only school to be black and white.
Via Gregory Peck’s matchless acting in the movie variation of the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus Finch would undoubtedly be the figurehead who has most influenced me. As a man and a lawyer, Atticus envelopes everything that is good in society-he stands tall in what he believes, and he summons to contest the County’s racial spate while maintaining a home of morals and values for his two kids. After watching it, the one thing that impacted me the most was the relationship of Jem and Scout with their father Atticus. With them Atticus is nothing but honest, and never tries to lessen the acerbity of situations with promises –an ability that many parents today lack. He treats his kids as if they were adults, he gives them the respect all
Paul is a very wise man; he is a man who knows what is going on in the real world, he does courageous things throughout the film and wore different hats during the film. Paul is a terrific role model for his children and to all of the people in Rwanda due to his action of being very creatively in buying time and creating multiple ways to save the people of his hotel from being killed by the Hutu Tribe. If I was in Mr. Paul’s shoes I would probably be dead or have already flown away from that horrific situation he was involve in because of myself being afraid to die so from what we could have seen in the film Paul was a brave man. Paul also used his skills of bribery, flattery, apology and deception to save these lives that have come into his care as you could have seen in the film. Due to the killing that was going on in Rwanda many of Paul neighbors went to his house because he was the only one available who they can depend on to help them.
