Influential African American Leaders Leadership is a position everyone desires to have in life, but with the title comes great responsibility. We have been honored to have great African American leaders both in the past and present. There are several skills that a leader must possess, but one of the most vital skills I believe a leader should have is the ability to communicate. Booker T. Washington, Marcus Garvey, and President Barak Obama are great examples of how rhetorical speeches will not only persuade an audience, but will draw the support that is needed to fulfill an assignment. In this essay, I will discuss the rhetorical strategies that these men used in order to communicate their message effectively to their audience(s).

This speech was incredibly influential and was widely circulated, including to the President of the United States at the time Grover Cleveland, who praised him for his words of encouragement. Though he did receive some criticism from some in the black community for being too accommodating to the interest of the whites, he never backed down or retracted anything that he believed in. The fact that the invitations poured in for him to speak at many other notable expositions and associations was proof enough that there was meaning and strength behind his words and he should not feel the need to defend
He was the most courageous and dedicated leader during the civil rights struggle, and his leadership impacted millions. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech will be remembered by Americans for many generations, and overall, he impacted the nation in more ways than words can describe. His courage to fight for what he believed in is one of the many reasons why the United States government created a national holiday in his honor. It was these three things that made Dubois’s approach more effective. Although many people believed in Washington’s theories, Dubois used education to make segregation go away. In his cartoon, Nast depicts the African-American as a hero who deserves to be recognized as such. He admires the blacks who fought for the Union and believes they should attain equal rights. Thomas Nast was a strong Lincoln supporter and a radical Reconstructionists who believed in suffrage for blacks and a much harsher treatment of the South. African Americans have hopes and dreams just like any other person and should be given the opportunities in life to achieve the American dream. Malcolm X died fighting for this cause. He was a man of strong words and beliefs and one of the greatest civil rights activists in history. Malcolm X was a major contributor to black societies across the world. He fought for what he believed in.
The practices of the late Malcolm X were deeply rooted in the theoretical foundations of the Black Panther Party. Malcolm had represented both a militant revolutionary, with the dignity and self-respect to stand up and fight to win equality for all oppressed minorities; while also being an outstanding role model, someone who sought to bring about positive social services; something the Black Panthers would take to new heights.
