Quality Work Life Yvette Perkins MAN5245 Organizational Behavior Individual Work 1 December 19, 2012 Instructor: Dr. Jennifer Scott Introduction The author will discuss both the favorable and unfavorable (QWL) characteristics contained on the job at Hampton Inn. “Quality work life (QWL) is another way in which organizations recognize their responsibility to develop jobs and working conditions that are excellent for people as well as for the economic health of the organization” (Newstrom, 2011, p. 257). The plan of work life quality involves any type of development in an organization’s culture supporting the employees’ growth and happiness. Quality work life depends mostly upon an organization providing their employees with more opportunities so that particular employee can be more effective in that organization. Newstrom (2011) suggests, “There is need to give workers more of a challenge, more of a whole task, more opportunity to use their ideas” p.257. In the author’s opinion, employees should have an opportunity to express themselves or their suggestions, and there should be room for advancement within the organization if they qualify. Favorable (QWL) Characteristics at Hampton Inn Hampton Inn has many favorable characteristics to the author, open communication, participation with management and employees and job security, room for advancement into other departments, hands on training for employees already with in the hotel. Open communication between the owners, management and the employees from all departments. Staff meetings are held every Monday to discuss issues, ideas, complaints and suggestions. Participation with management and the employees is really on an up rise within this organization. Management understands that the employees at Hampton Inn play a significant role and their participation is very important for the hotel’s
