Inspiration is important because it’s good to influence people to do what’s right, like exercising daily. Heroes can’t be uninspiring because they need to motivate others to achieve something worthy. So what defines a hero to me? Someone with a lot of courage and inspiration that doesn’t let things get in their way when trying to help others. Being brave and inspiring is very important to our society because there needs to be heroes out in the world influencing others to do the same, like help others and inspire people to do what’s good.
Ahmet Meric Ozcan, 21102006 Achilles and Gilgamesh: Fair Villains A hero is someone who tries the best to help everyone and will do everything in his or her power to help out another person. The term hero means different things to different people. Today many people believe that a hero is a person who can accomplish what others can not or a person who puts themselves on the line for the other people. Men, women and children can all be heroes if they truly feel in their hearts the need to help others in even the smallest ways. In our modern world heroes are defined in so many ways.
Ultimately, moral courage creates a positive difference in the world. Anyone can help someone it just takes a courageous heart. Many important jobs are making a difference in people’s lives: police officers, military soldiers, fire fighters, teachers, doctors, scientists (David Tu). These people have moral courage to do what they think is right, even if it means putting themselves in danger. Fire fighters fight to save not only people, but things that are important to people such as homes, pets, and valuable belongings.
Someone that is brave and honest, yes those might be some qualities but then again can’t anyone be brave or honest? Some qualities I consider to be heroic are self-sacrifice, caring attitude and having leadership skills. Self-sacrifice is a huge heroic quality because it takes a lot for someone to risk their own life for someone else’s. Anyone can help someone as long as the don’t get hurt in the process but knowing that you are going to get hurt and still helping that person takes a great deal of courage. Like in Beowulf, he risks his life to go fight against Grendel and bring peace back to Hrothgar and his kingdom.
Forgiveness is more powerful than hatred, and love and hope is more powerful than any weapon of war. The hero’s journey is one that appeals to a universal audience, regardless of your own context, because we, as humans, all have the capacity to be a hero. We all have challenges in our life we need to overcome and this then brings realisation and growth. Every step of the way, we learn something about ourselves and the world around us. As a primitive emotion of humanity, we all strive to be successful, to be happy.
They all possessed great traits of their own heroic quality. Wheher it was being dedicated, self-sacrifising, or overcoming obstacles each trait was important and defined these characters as the heroes they are. Some could argue Homer was decidated for example, while others could argue he's brave. So as you can see each trait was essential, but also based on opinon. Firstly, the Main character and one of the three main heroes of October Sky, was Homer Hickam.
Heroic action is engaged in voluntarily, conducted to service one or more people and involves risk to quality of life. To be a hero you need to stand up and do what is right like a good deed. “True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It isn’t the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others” Heroes are identified with certain characteristics. They tend to be concerned with others, seeing things from another view.
Respect is important because society needs to have a positive perception of the Army in order for it to be successful. Selfless Service is putting the needs of the Army before your own, but also taking care of yourself and your subordinates. Honor provides the moral compass for individuals. It is the glue for the Army Values. Integrity and personal courage are important because a Soldier must do what is right all the time even if they are scared.
He is more than courageous. He went above and beyond. Everyone has their own perspective, on courage. In my perspective I feel that courage is one of the most needed things in someone’s personality. It shows their true colors and how they are able to overcome anything.
Beowulf Epic poetry almost always includes the traits and actions of a perfect hero. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character is portrayed as a brave, strong warrior willing to do anything in order to gain personal fame. However, Beowulf also learns along the way that he is not invincible, and that being able to pass on his acts of heroism and being a good king is far more rewarding than being a hero. Beowulf travels to help the Danes in order to gain personal fame, and in order to be known as the slayer of Grendel. Beowulf is very self-confident and trusting in God, and even fights Grendel unarmed, and without any protective armor because of his faith.
