Like Beauty, Heroism is also in the eye of the beholder. Everyone has their own definition of what a hero is. To little kids it can be someone with super natural powers with a cap or spandex like superman or Spiderman. Most people might have the same definition. Someone that is brave and honest, yes those might be some qualities but then again can’t anyone be brave or honest? Some qualities I consider to be heroic are self-sacrifice, caring attitude and having leadership skills. Self-sacrifice is a huge heroic quality because it takes a lot for someone to risk their own life for someone else’s. Anyone can help someone as long as the don’t get hurt in the process but knowing that you are going to get hurt and still helping that person takes a great deal of courage. Like in Beowulf, he risks his life to go fight against Grendel and bring peace back to Hrothgar and his kingdom. Another example would be of a man named Wesley Autry in 2007. While he was waiting at a subway station with his two young daughters a young man had a seizure and fell from the platform onto the subway tracks and everyone just looked as the man had an episode but Wesley handed his daughters…show more content…
When there is a crowd in distress or a person the hero should be able to calm them down and make people look up to them. In 2012 there was another shooting in Sikh temple, one man tried to disarm the shooter and once another man saw what he was doing he followed and tried helping him. In Beowulf many warriors followed and looked up to him. The warriors trusted him and let him lead them to the battle at Heorot without question. In conclusion, as we grow up our definition of a hero and the qualities it takes to be a hero changes. To me it went from someone that flies around and has superhuman strength to someone that risks their life for the safety of others, someone with a caring attitude and someone who has leadership
