Professional Roles & Values Project author Western Governors University Introduction Nursing is one of the most dynamic and demanding careers since time in memorial. However, regardless of this, I believe that my resolve is clear: to pursue this career as a reliable and dedicated nurse who is keen on creating long lasting relationship with my patients and colleagues. A number of functional differences exist between the Board of Nursing (BRN) and Professional Nursing Organization in regard to my practice in the state of Californis. As a professional, I will be guided by the provisions contained in the code of ethics in the American Nursing Association. The first provision is respect and recognition of human dignity (Grace, 2013). It is important for a nurse to take into account of the fact that professional values and needs are needed in their relationship with individuals, family or community while in practice (ANA, 2015). The other provision that will influence by practice is the primary commitment to the patient as defined in the American Nursing Association. I will be able to understand that the interests of the patient are primary in my career. I will need to include the patient in the planning of care provision and ensure that there is no conflict of interest, enhance collaboration and create professional boundaries at all times. I will be keen on bringing in key professional traits from the American Nurse Association’ code of ethics. One of the key traits is being responsible to the public and as such I should be aware of any health threats to the public (Reed, 2006). The second trait is the facilitation of a healthy work environment based on moral virtues and values. The other two important traits will include preservation of integrity and wholeness of individual character.
