The contribution of the whole team will improve the quality and continuity of the care and provide the best outcomes for the patient. Delegation and Teamwork It is obvious that Ms. W is concerned about Ms. R so the nursing supervisor should approach her with that in mind. She should speak to her privately and find out the reasons why she is not delegating some of the tasks to the team. There are many barriers to delegation such as thee person feels they can do the task themselves, inadequate training in delegation, and reluctance to depend on others. The nursing supervisor should explain the importance of delegation in improving workflow and influencing positive patient outcomes.
Nurse managers must not only fulfill their daily responsibilities, they must lead the change demanded that will secure a bright future for American health care. The Nurse Manager Inventory Tool captures the skills and behaviors that are envisioned for the successful nurse manager. This inventory allows the nurse manager to perform a self-evaluation that can be paired with the nurse manager’s supervisor’s assessment to create an individualized professional development plan. The inventory is based on the three domain model initially developed by three national nursing associations1. The successful nurse manager must gain expertise in all three domains.
The curriculum concepts are ideas and/or traits that characterize a successful nurse. The concepts, or outcomes, are measured for future nurses to reach the optimal knowledge and skill nursing professors are willing to give. Caring, the first outcome, allows nurses to perform their skills without bias. Communication, another outcome, is a valuable way nurses
Even though nurses work together as a unit, it always helps to have a leader. The leader is a more experienced nurse then other member of the nursing team. This gives other nurses someone to look up to and feel comfortable going to during a difficult situation and when you need assistance. Leadership Transitioning In the article The Future of Nursing Leadership: A Commentary, by Kenneth R. White, FACHE, he describes how nursing leaders play a larger role then only on the units. According to White, K. R. (2014) “Nurse were the original servant leaders—at the patient’s beside and in communities- and now they are perfectly positioned to take their experience with leadership to a heightened level.
Leadership in Nursing Essential to quality patient care is the effective functioning of an interdisciplinary team. In most clinical settings, nurses have the closest relationship with patients. For that reason nurses need to take an active role in the interdisciplinary team, they are the front line providers, ensure communication between team members and the patient, and continually advocate for the patient and family. Nurses know how care should be delivered. They can ensure smooth handoffs as the patient transitions through the continuum.
It helps midwives provide the correct and safe care for women in their care. The process of record keeping is every bit as important as hands on clinical skills to helping maintain woman's safety. It is not only important for monitoring a woman's treatment and medical condition, it is also important for any legal issues that may arise (Wood 2010). A main point in the NMC 2009 guidelines for good record keeping states "you should record details of any assessment and reviews undertaken and provide clear evidence of the arrangements you have made for future and ongoing care. This should also include details of information given about care and treatment" (NMC 2009).
Nurse Becoming a nurse is a career that I feel is the best fit for me. A nurse is someone that needs to be able to be trusted by others, you need to have qualities like; kindness responsibility, patience, and assertiveness. As a nurse you are responsible for taking care of sick and injured patients, that can very from babies to elders. A nurse is also required to take detailed records in order to help doctors with the progress of their patients. As a student I am most interested in becoming a nurse because of all the experiences that you intake and learn from, during your career as being a nurse.
I will be discussing my personal nursing values which I believe to be the holistic characteristic of nursing. Education is one of the major key in nursing roles. Having a good nursing education background is considered essential to prepare a newly graduate nurse to work in a hospital. It is the responsibility of the nurse to apply the skills and knowledge acquired from school to the work place in order to render an effective care. Knowledge can give nurses greater confidence to take action and absence of knowledge can leave nurses powerless to provide a safe and high quality care.
