Personal Career Development Plan Life is a journey created by people met, choices made, and paths formed. One’s life is constantly changing sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad. Throughout my life, I have always had one dream that has been with me since I was a little girl. This dream has shaped who I am and driven me to further my education in my adult life. This dream is to take care of premature and critically ill babies. I have pursued my dream by working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I feel it is time to move forward to an area of nursing where I can be more involved in the decisions about the care and progress of these tiny

When I finished nursing school I also graduated with my Associate in Arts degree. I had planned on returning to school within one year to finish my BSN. Thirteen years later, here I am finishing what I started. In the short term, my goal is to continue full time in the NICU while pursuing my BSN at Jacksonville University. I plan to finish my degree in one year. In the long term my goal is to apply to the University of South Alabama where I intend to finish my doctorate degree with a focus in neonatal nurse practitioner. After I finish my doctorate, I plan to work in the NICU where I currently work as a nurse. In the thirteen years I have been at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, I have learned a great deal from the Neonatologists and the NNP’s. One of the NNP’s that I have worked closely with throughout the years has agreed to be my mentor in my journey to become a NNP. Marilyn has been a NNP for over twenty years. She has a wide range of experience and I look forward to learning a great deal of knowledge from her.

I only work three days a week and I don’t have any other commitments that I have to work around. My study plan consists of setting aside four hours each day I am off in the morning to use for coursework and writing papers. I have dedicated two hours each afternoon before my husband gets home from work to reading. I also have dedicated an hour each evening to log into my classes and check assignments, email, and discussion boards. This is seven hours dedicated to my classes three days a week. The extra day will be for personal things and to allow myself a mental break throughout the week. I believe this plan gives me ample time to do the required coursework so that I can be successful in this program.
Time Management plan As I stated in my study plan I will dedicate seven hours a day to this program. I have set aside time in the early afternoon after my study time to run errands, appointments, and work related issues. I will have four hours before the time I set aside for reading in the early evening. I believe this will give me plenty of time to do the day to day things that I would normally do. I will also have a great deal of help from my husband and children with the household chores as they will be there to help and support me throughout this endeavor.
