Education is continuous in nursing. It is a process that evolves with experience and gaining various degrees. The skills needed to achieve my educational goals include using effective communication, team work and numerous certifications. Being a nurse was always what I would consider, a calling since I was in grade school. I was the only kid in my group of friends watching surgery shows and fascinated
The Journal of Nursing Education states, “researchers found the concepts of caring and nurturance were identified as high motivators for choosing nursing” (Williams, Wertenberger, Hames, Gushuliak, 1997). At that time, I was working back office at a Urology office and was going to school. I decided one day that to be able to provide for my daughter if something were to happen between my husband and I that I could always support us. Therefore, my journey began. A Journey Amongst Friends I was fortunate enough to go to nursing school with my best friend Harley.
The purpose of higher learning allows growth while broadening my perspective to help educate others. The complete and concise curriculum allows me to prioritize my daily routines to become an enhanced student and educator. My concerns and difficulties were at a low level during this module because of the great support system provided in the GCU program. Organizing and prioritizing were a little difficult because achieving my personal, academic, and career goals are all on equal ground. The final outcome entails personal, academic, and career goals that will be gained during my pursuit of higher
Ms Orem began her career with a nursing diploma from the Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Washington D.C. sometime in the 1930’s. Ms Orem continued her education until she received her Master’s Degree in 1945. During this time she worked in the operating room, emergency room, private duty setting, pediatric and medical nursing units and eventually became a director. She became interested in improving the quality of nursing in general hospitals in her state and subsequently became a consultant to the office of education and it was during this time period that she developed and published Orem’s Self Care Deficit Theory for the first time in the “Guides for Developing Curricula for the Education of Practical Nurses”. In 1976 she received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from Georgetown University.
After a couple of year I take post basic in Midwifery. Since then I attached in labour room. I am one of senior midwives who are working in labour room now. I already attended clinical instructor workshop for mentoring programs. According to Employment Equity and Diversity (2004), the mentor needs to be a person who is aware of their responsibilities in supporting staff and require training and resources to support them in their role.
Running head: TYMITHA’S NURSING PHILOSOPHY Tymitha’s Nursing Philosophy Submitted by Tymitha Barnes, RN In partial fulfillment of the requirements of Transition to Professional Nursing N3645 Jeanean Boyd, MSN, RN July 13, 2014 Tymitha’s Nursing Philosophy The daily role of a nurse is a very complex one. As a registered nurse, I impact many lives. Therefore, my nursing philosophy is critical as I interact with my patients, their family members, and other medical professionals in providing quality healthcare at all times. My personal nursing philosophy has been greatly influenced by the environment in which I was raised. Excellent morals and beliefs were instilled in me at an early age by my grandparents and mother.
My personal belief is that what you give to your patients will come back to you. It has guided me to do my best in my everyday job and duties as a nurse. As a nurse caring for, not only sick patients, but also fellow people, coworkers, new graduates, and agency nurses who have never worked in the units before. I help them to familiarize their environment by
Personal Goals When I completed my Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) I had many professional goals just waiting for me to achieve. I had a strong desire to start my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) right away. My employer at the time published a congratulations ad in the local paper stating my future plans included going to the University of Southern California to pursue my Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) degree. I would daydream about having that diploma on my office wall and spending my career as a women’s health provider with the ultimate goal of delivering babies. I started working as a maternal child health nurse, eventually ending up in labor and delivery which was supposed to be a stepping stone to my future.
The Journey of My Life As the journey through life has brought me to the point of wanting to finish my bachelor’s degree of science in nursing (BSN), I believe that I am definitely ready for some redirection of my goals. Initially, after obtaining my associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) I advanced on to California State University of Fullerton (CSUF). Soon thereafter, I found I was pregnant with my twin boys. This event changed the course of my life, education, and goals. As I have continued in my career, I have gained a vast amount of experience, knowledge, and wisdom.
I have a genuine interest in this field as when I was growing up I looked after my Nan who was heavily disabled. This is where I got a lot of satisfaction in caring as I could see my work generally making a difference to someone’s life. My first professional job in the care and nursing industry was as a Nursing Auxillary at the local General Hospital. I completed some basic training which I enjoyed immensely and ended up being placed onto the orthopedic ward. Car crash victims and knee and hip replacement patients were now part of my daily routine, As my time there grew I was invited to attend theatre a couple of times which boosted my skills and knowledge even more.
