Kyle Richardson MGMT of Contemporary Organizations Leadership Essay “Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” This quote by Vince Lombardi best describes my thoughts and experiences about leadership because hard work is how I became the leader and person I am today. Leaders are established by their actions, attitudes and decisions when working on goals or tasks. Everyone in a group looks to a positive, hard working person that is not afraid to take action and lead them in a direction that everyone believes is best. There is a fine line for leaders to get the consent of the team, but also keep the control of the group. Through hard work in my classrooms and on the hockey team, I have risen to become a leader at Wentworth. As a transfer student-athlete at Wentworth, becoming a leader did not come quick or easy. As a transfer student, I was faced with difficulty fitting in and learning Wentworth’s academic expectations. I had to rely on hard work, which I had done for so many years before, to gain the knowledge of subjects and earn the trust of my classmates. This trust that I developed through hard work and knowledge was an important factor in becoming a leader in the classroom. My first chance to evolve into a leader at Wentworth came in my Business Communications class. My group was not gaining any ground and needed direction on the project. I spoke up about an idea and explained the reasoning behind my idea and ended up convincing the group to move forward with my idea. Because the group was using my idea, it was logical that I became the project leader. This project turned out to be a success, not only for the grade we received, but also on a personal level for me becoming a leader. This project was the first time at Wentworth that I
