JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp) helps young adults build leadership, character, and teamwork skills. This program will encourage students to learn how to lead and teach them responsibility. It will teach people skills and take the best out of each student. This program will require students to think logically and for students to make decisions for them and take on responsibility. JROTC will teach students responsibility and life skills to make it in the real world.
JROTC motivates young people to become better American citizens. Along with this comes the strengthening of Cadets’ character and leadership. The program provides opportunities to allow Cadets to realize their true potential. JROTC encourages all Cadets to apply their skills to improve the world around them. The action of leading a group of people or an organization is leadership.
Educated citizens with strong social awareness are the basis of any democracy and especially a well-built democracy. Thus it becomes obligatory for the nation to educate each child to it’s fullest capability for self-realization, self-fulfillment and to make them compete and contribute nationally and internationally. Exactly at this juncture there comes the need for counseling, to realize these goals. Full potential is the key word that should attract the attention of the schools, it’s teachers on one hand and the parents, the government and the local community leaders on the other hand. School counselors are the bridges between these two sets of groups to assist students in reaching their full potential in their educational progress and accomplishments.
I have made many friends including Cadet/Private Sommermeyer and Cadet/Private Tatum. These many friends extend beyond the JROTC classroom and will no doubt be there when I most need them to be. Another thing ROTC is good for is community service hours. My counselor has already given me a community service worksheet to fill out whenever I do something and she says it will help me get into a much better college and will also look good on my Job/college application. JROTC also inspires me to work hard in school and out of school.
Conflict versus Functional Theory “The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” (Tom Bodett) What is the purpose of our education system in our society? Schools continue to educate the young by expanding their minds and providing students across the country a higher likely-hood of succeeding by furthering their education. The school system provides a platform for domestic students to compete with each other as well as international students.
It not only provides more opportunities and options but also more academic potential. It also adds value when it comes to securing certain top positions. These values are given to you for working hard and achieving the status of a successful human being. Schools teach you good morals on how to do an effort, how to work hard, how to achieve things, how to become an adult, and how to work with others and get results. “The choices you make now, the people you surround yourself with, they all have the potential to affect your life, even who you are, forever” (Xplore).
Not only did these boys survive but they came up in the world and now serve as an example to young people everywhere. Role models played a very important factor in the lives of these individuals. Ms. Johnson, a third grade teacher, pushed George to strive for more in his life. Ms. Johnson’s biggest contribution, was her ability and desire to expose children to college and higher learning, making what seemed impossible to most of them a not-so-distant goal. The exposure from a young age can have great impact on children’s lives and it certainly worked for the three men today.
The teacher or professor may accomplish this by reviewing the material, emphasizing key points, and providing the students with examples that they would easily relate to. Most of them are willing to dedicate extra time to help the student meet his or her needs. Several high school teachers, as well as some college professors go beyond reading, writing, and arithmetic. They teach you about life, all its hardships and all its rewards. Receiving a good education is great, but enhancing yourself and growing as a person is just as important.
Creating a lifelong habit of community service can help students become more healthy over the course of a lifetime. As students work within their community, they learn that they can be responsible for making great things happen. This helps to build a sense of responsibility in students, and a sense of pride when they see what they’ve done is actually helping others. Community Service offers students a way to build their network, they would be creating connections with more people who can write letters of recommendation, and often, certain community service organizations offer their own scholarship opportunities. This is not just for schoolwork, but for higher education, careers, and further community involvement.
High school is a time full of bonding and experiences that lead towards maturity and identity of oneself. Looking back on high school I recognize the need to have done several things differently, beginning with the way I treated the staff there to support me. Withal another change I would have implemented was an increased effort in regards to my school work while managing participation in sports. A stronger effort in school work and participation in sports would have heavily influenced the relationships I had in high school, an influence which I now realize could have been for the better. High school is often referred to as being among the best years of ones life, and I believe that if I had instituted the aforementioned changes I would have been better prepared for the future and made high school a more memorable experience.
