SHC 31 1.1 Identify the different reasons people communicate What is communication? Communication is the way in which we exchange information. We use this to make our feelings and ideas known also to pass on news. Communication is one of the most important life skills, a large portion of what we do includes communication including everyday tasks. For example, sorting out problems, making friends and learning.
Outcome 1- understand why communication is important in an adult social care setting. 1.1- Identify different reasons why people communicate: There are many different reasons as to why people communicate. We communicate to express and share ideas on a topic,we communicate to show our feeling need and wishes and also our preferences. We have to also communicate to share and gain information while also getting to know one another. 1.2- Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of working in an adult social care setting: Effective communication can affect many aspects of work,effectively communicating can help build levels of trust,help recording and reporting incidents, aid participation and help with service provisions.
Communication is the exchange of ideas, knowledge, information and expression of emotion whether it is verbal, non-verbal or written. I am now going to explain the roles and importance of effective communication and interpersonal interaction shared between service providers and service users. The role of communication is to send and receive messages – the message being sent will be the whole purpose of the conversation. To carry on this conversation it is important that the person you’re talking to understands what you are saying in order to give an appropriate response. There are many different ways in which to communicate, some of them being: speaking, texting, emailing, writing, using objects of reference; signs and symbols.
As a result of our varied cultural backgrounds, we could have potential conflicts. To avoid these conflicts, I must employ several communication strategies to communicate competently. This ultimately involves forming a deep understanding of the groups represented in the audience, as well as identifying and being sensitive to the norms and values of these groups. Then, I must cater the aim and information in the presentation to the audience to make it more relevant and important to the groups. Incorporating various forms of media in the presentation aid in the communication process as well.
2.3 Explain why it is important to observe an individual’s reactions when communicating with them – It is important to observe an individual’s behaviour because their body language is also a form of communication. Communication is a two way process called an interaction and it is important to observe people as you deal with them. As a carer we must be good communicators, this means much more than just talking to people. We must communicate through speaking, facial expressions, body language and gestures to name a few. 2.
In a school there are many other people to consider as your team rather than just the people you work with closely on a daily basis. Knowing and executing your role as an individual to the best of your ability allows you to be a valued member of any team. It is also essential to know the roles of those around you. This allows you to fully understand and support each other. By working as a team you can gain valuable knowledge from those who are more experienced than you, but it also allows you to suggest newer and fresher ways to approach learning.
Gaining reassurance and acknowledgement is another form of communication it is always admirable to gain and give compliments. When one is acknowledged for the work that they have done it will impact into the work that is being done. Other reasons why people communicate are to discuss a situation, make a point or outline a concern and develop learning. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work Effective communication is a two way process. The person communicating has to make sure they are giving the right message, but also needs to make sure that it is being correctly received and understood by the other person or people.

There are different influences that affect communication such as cultural differences, language differences. Specific needs such as physical difficulties can influence a person ability to communicate, always be sensitive to the specific needs of the individual so communication is encouraged from the start.
