To support effective communication in my job I need to ensure that I communicate with people in a way that is most suitable for them. There are several different needs that people have in relation to communication. These are varied and depend on factors which are sensory ability, cultural background, language, self-confidence, level of learning ability or physical ability. It is very important that when communicating with people I do it at the correct level of understanding. Effective written and verbal communication and being able to use a variety of interpersonal techniques promotes strong working relationships which will then lead to a good quality care for my service users.
The key to overcoming things like discrimination and prejudice is education. The more we learn about other races and cultures the better we will be able to understand and relate them to our own culture. With this knowledge we will be able to see past the stereotypes and judge each person on their own merit. It is up to us to take actions that will increase this knowledge. We need two types of people in order to make this a reality.
Information is shared with other partnerships for the benefit of the client. When partnerships form and work together all the information should help to build a bigger picture of the client’s life. Each partnership may see different things in their visits to the client. By working together they may implement and plan for all needs not just one that maybe seen by one professional. For the partnership to work they need to have good communication both written and oral, build respect, understanding, have a good rapport, share information and
These factors all interrelate to create shared meanings. A common bond that ties these factors together is language. Representation through language is central to the processes by which meaning is produced and interpreted. Hall (ed 1997) proposes that “representation means using language to say something meaningful about, or to represent, the world meaningfully, to other people”. However, it is possible that meaning can shift as we move from one culture or language to another.
Unit 5 3.1 To provide an efficient, well run person centred service I have to work with many different professionals from different agencies and organisations. It is an important part of my role as manager to work in partnership with others as it means that we have the chance to share our knowledge and skills but also observe that of other professionals and extend their knowledge and skills at the same time. To work effectively with professionals as a manager I need to * Communicate effectively with others in the interest of the service users * Identify and challenge discriminatory practices * Apply interviewing, listening and observation skills of the joint assessment process and shared reports * Negotiate and organise skills that enable good team working * Deal with difficult situations and manage conflict 3.4 The effectiveness of any professional partnerships can be judged on its failures and/or successes. It is important to be clear about the purpose of professional partnerships and to monitor the actions and resources they use. It is important to review, measure and monitor any progress against the set objectives and have regular progress reports.
I1. It is important to recognise that communication is a two way channel. There are many factors that can affect an individual’s skills and ability to communicate effectively. Working with young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties requires an understanding of their individual needs and mostly backgrounds as it promotes an open forum were young people feel free to express their views and opinions. I also identify that communication flow must also be maintained amongst individual team members.
In order to fully appreciate the importance of this process, the history that led to its inclusion in research projects must be understood. Although informed consent is designed to make sure that a participant fully understands the procedures, benefits, and risks involved in an experiment, it is not without its flaws in its practical application. There are many covert communication barriers between participants and researchers that lead to misunderstandings. This prevents participants from making the fully autonomous decisions sought for in the informed consent process. Some of those barriers are related to cultural aspects such as language differences and religious dogma.
As this need increases, mediation and advocacy become necessary to service client’s social needs. To become an advocate, passion for other human beings is important. Being a great mediator requires more skills. Mediation and Conflict Solutions (2011) explains, “Think of a constructive way to deal with the situation before you speak, understand how each person feels, and listen actively” (para. 1).
Communication is a major base for humankind. To be able to know and understand each other as different individuals, it is very important that communication takes place. Communication enables humanity to interact with one another; exchange information whether urgent or not or just general talk about different things going on around and within us. Communication is essential because it helps people to build relationships whether formal or informal, it also assists in encouraging and building diverse personalities amongst individuals. Communication has to be effective in order for there to be an agreement or compromise.
1.2 Effective communication affect all aspects of our work. It’s important to communicate as getting information can assist with the care we give. It can also help us to find out likes and dislikes, to improve quality of life. 1.3 Its important to observe an individual’s reaction when communicating with them so you can get an idea of how that person is feeling, we communicate through speaking, facial expressions, body language, position, dress and gestures. Body language is the most important way of communicating without using words.
