Current Event #2 Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion of a fetus or embryo from the uterus. Worldwide 42 million abortions are estimated to take place annually, more than the people killed in all the wars in the 20th century. The rightfulness, cultural, and religious views on abortion vary significantly around the world. In the United States people speak out about the issue everyday. There are many reasons abortion can be good abortion but also many reasons why abortion is wrong. There are two groups that speak out about what they believe about this topic, Pro-Life and Pro-Choice. The Pro-Life group is the group against abortion. They believe the safest place on earth is the mother’s womb where life should be started. Centuries ago different cultures did human sacrifices and we were horrified learning about them. Although killing an innocent human being is wrong, I believe a woman has the right to do whatever she wants with her body and if she feels a baby isn’t right for her at the time of her pregnancy it’s her business whether or not to get an abortion. An excellent example of this is teenage pregnancy. There are TV shows all over TV now about it. An adolescent is neither mentally nor physically prepared for a baby. Many girls drop out of school and are forced to get a job to support their child. Most end up breaking up with the father and are left to take care of the baby on their own. Teenagers still have their whole life ahead of them and maybe there’s no other option for them other than to get an abortion. Another situation where a woman may want to get one is rape. Having to give birth to the child she conceived during this horrible event would only add to her stress and remind her of what happened. While the debate continues, I feel people have the right to do whatever they feel is best for
