Struggling Middle School Reader: Successful, Acceleration Intervention Rosemary Papalewis Leah Sykes-Rangel ED 385 Mrs. Melissa Mainiero Sept. 24, 2010 Many students repeat the 8th grade because their reading skills are not proficient enough for them to move on. In fact, Torgeson and Burgess both agree that one child in eight who show signs of reading difficulties at the end of their first grade year rarely obtain reading skills along their current level. Teachers more than often enough are to blame. However, outside forces such as a student not attending class regularly or financial burdens also play a role as well. Whatever the case may be, reading levels are quickly declining instead of accelerating.
The questions 1-5 are all closed questions in Ms. Kelley’s questionnaire. They are not worded in the most effective way to be able to obtain the appropriate information she needs related to the behavioral incidents that Global Ed Charter School has been experiencing. The first question asks the teachers and staff to estimate the number of behavior incidents that they have observed, but only for the last two weeks. Since the school year began not too long ago, why not expand the time frame to list all the behavior incidents since the beginning of this school year? The second closed question, question number 2, the wording of the question does not clearly state what she is asking and was confusing for me to try to understand.
The population of the city is around 3,000, and FHS services about 360 students from grades ninth thru twelfth. The community is very small and close knit, and the high school plays a major role in preparing students for the real word, because most of the students do not attend college after graduation. Objective of the Document The objective of this analysis is to identify ways to integrate technology at the ninth grade level in English and math classes to help strengthen the students’ skills in those areas. The integration of technology in the core areas will also provide additional skill building activities for students so that they will be prepared for the mandatory state test required for graduation. Background Observation of the existing technology made over the last five years.
Literacy Narrative Johanna Eldredge Southern Technical College Jennifer Polk The biggest obstacle that I have encountered in my ability why to read and write are my Learning disabilities. I was diagnosed at the age of 7 with Dyslexia and it has caused me much frustration. I has no idea why other kids could read out loud so well and I couldn’t. I had no idea why it took me so long to read a few pages of a book when other kids were almost done with the chapter. I had no idea why I couldn’t even sit down to write a paper when other kids were doing their essays in the span of a couple hours.
They do not accept correction or high expectations easily. In addition, the majorities of students are English Language Learners and are academically deficient in terms of grade level testing. Out of all my students in grade six this past school year, only one was reading on grade level. Over 50% were three grade levels behind and the remaining 45% were one or two grades behind. Effective classroom management for me is a huge component of what I attempt to do in my daily environment.

One principal describes the Common Core testing as “torture” (Source F). One teacher had only 23 students opt out and at least 3 times that number in tears. The teacher herself could not even answer twenty-five percent of the questions on the exam. The tests had readability levels far beyond what was appropriate, with questions that were vague, wordy, designed for trickery–not accurately measuring if children understand the texts they are reading. They were also far too long for the students to complete.
Davian McEwan Cynthia Fontaine Dean Foundations 19 October 2012 Behavior during Exam There are different ways people chose to take exams, most people study ahead so they can be well prepared for the test and then you have others that wait till the night before to study. Still are differences in how they both scores on the test, people who study days or even weeks ahead for the test can do worse than the person that only studied for that night. Why is that? People can suffer from anxiety, and anxiety is a huge thing. With anxiety people will start thinking too hard, forget the material get worried and fail the exam.
The Future of Students Equals Change in Everyone The American people make excuses over and over about why our children are struggling in school, but the true question we need to ask is: why aren’t we doing enough to make a change? A few years ago the elementary school that my children attend had implemented a dual language program. After four years, my children were fluent in Spanish. This program was doing so well, that ninety eight percent of the children in the program tested out gifted. Unfortunately somewhere down the line, the school board members at the district, and state level didn’t think the program was worth keeping.
Mukherajee begins the narrative with a story about Carla Reed, a thirty-year old kindergarten teacher, who has been having medical problems. Mukherajee observes that she, "had bruises on her back...her gums had begun to turn white...[she] could barely walk up a flight of stairs...and is exhausted and unable to stand". Carla has been miss diagnosed on several occasions. This demonstrates how during this time, it was hard to determine whether it was actually cancer or something else going on in the body. Carla has visited the doctors twice since she has been getting these symptoms and each
