Thomas Woodrow Wilson SSG Victor Suarez Engineer Senior Leader Course Abstract This paper explores the life of Thomas Woodrow Wilson and reports his accomplishments in life, as he makes his way to become the 28th president of the United States of America. It focuses on his early education and learning disability, which does not stop him from earning a doctorate degree. It concentrates on goals that he completes while he is the president of Princeton University. There is also attention on his personal life, such as marriages and offspring. It shows an emphasis on his governing position as he becomes nominated by the Democratic Party to run for governor of New Jersey. He was the son of Joseph Ruggles Wilson, a Presbyterian minister, and Janet Woodrow, daughter of a Presbyterian minister. Woodrow Wilson, as he is better known, was brought up in a religious and academic household. He graduated from Princeton University what back then was called the College of New Jersey. He studied law at the University of Virginia and earned a doctorate degree from John Hopkins University. In 1910 he became the governor of New Jersey and in 1912 ran for the presidency, making him the 28th president of the United States of America. During his first presidential term, he was able to keep the United States neutral during World War I, but during his second term, he declared war on Germany in 1917. Before becoming the president of the prestigious University, he taught at Bryn Mawr College and Wesleyan College. In 1890, Woodrow Wilson is hired by the faculty at Princeton University. While teaching jurisprudence and politics at Princeton, Wilson becomes the most popular and highest paid faculty member. At this point in his career, Wilson begins to successfully rise to power and is unanimously chosen to become the next president of Princeton University. From 1902 to 1910, while he was the president at Princeton, he was able to “upgrade the University both financially and intellectually, and he attempted far-reaching reforms of both undergraduate and graduate education”, as cited in (Cooper, 2017). Woodrow Wilson established a reputation at Princeton University and with this came publicity that the New Jersey Democratic Party could not let go. In the summer of 1910, he is approached by the New Jersey Democratic Party who encouraged him to run for the New Jersey governor position. Woodrow accepts and resigns his position at Princeton to better focus on his campaign. Despite his late arrival to the campaign, Wilson is able to convince the people of New Jersey and wins the election making him the governor of New Jersey.
