We have all heard of famous athletes having their career and life jeopardized because of taking steroids. Still, some of them do not stop and others keep on taking them. What is so addicting about steroids that make athletes risk their whole career or life for? It just does not make any sense, does it? To tell the truth, steroids just like pretty much everything else in this world, have pros and cons to it.
One reason why performance enhancing drugs in sports creates ethical issues is because it is a form of cheating and creates an unfair advantage which affects the true meaning of sports. Sports are supposed to unite people together and create a better living environment. Performance enhancing drugs preserve the intrinsitic
With athletes in the public eye, their actions can affect children and adults for whom they serve as role models. Therefore, athletes who use performance enhancing drugs should face consequences for abusing these substances. What is doping? A source defines doping as “the use of a drug or blood product to improve athletic performance” (Dictionary.com, n.d.). Yet, this seems to be such a broad definition, it is close to impossible to draw a line between doping and what could be called therapeutic medication.
As seen in many cases of steroid usage, a player and a team has a bad year the season before. Then, during the offseason the player gets on a cycle or two of steroids. His next season he, along with his team, is completely turned around from the season before and they have an all star like year. A good example of this is the left fielder for the San Francisco Giants Melky Ward 2 Cabrera, who did nothing above average all of his seasons. Then he was caught taking steroids, and at the time his hitting stats were the best in the league batting at a whopping .451.
The use of steroids is to try and gain an athletic edge. Steroids can cause a person to get bigger, stronger and faster but they will not give you skill or agility and technique. Many athletes abuse these drugs in order to boost their athletic performance but they may be doing so at a cost. Not only will the athlete be suspended or kicked out of their sport if they get caught, they also may be putting themselves at a serious health risk.
Many people do not think about these things. You should not be allowed to use any type of drugs as an athlete unless they are prescribed to you. Illegal drugs can affect the way you play and can screw you emotions and hormones. Drug test should be mandatory for every sport and team. Drug Testing is should be used in higher levels of sports to ensure the safety and health of these athletes is good at all times.
I believe that no athlete should risk his or her health by taking anabolic steroids just to be a better athlete. Anabolic steroids have benefits, but the benefits are outweighed by the side effects. Steroids have both detrimental short term and long term side effects. One short term effect is that the skin has an oily appearance and may be accompanied by the development of acne. Other short
One of the most popular ways to gain a competitive edge on the competition in professional athletes is to use performance enhancement drugs. It is illegal to use performance enhancing drugs. The leagues expect the athletes to get their size and skill from working out and practicing, not using a drug. Therefore, the athletes have to be discrete about taking performance enhancement drugs. Performance enhancement
People will get quick results when using properly. Many people do not think that they should be legalized because of the side effects of using them. On the other hand many people also think that they should be legalized because of the quick results they create. Much like smoking, steroids have side effects, but if people are will to take the risk, why not legalize steroids. Steroids are a compound that helps regulate various bodily functions.
One good reason why steroids should not be allowed in sports is that they ruin a players image. Normally the reason a player goes pro is, because they are naturally talented. When people find out that one of their favorite players are on steroids, they lose a lot of respect for that player. Take Alex Rodriguez for example, who was confirmed of using steroids during 2003. That year, he won the American League Home Run Title and was the MVP.
