The more common types we know about are Servant leadership, transformational leadership, spiritual leadership, chaos theory, emotional intelligence, ect. But the end result still remains the same. Great values, traits and skills are a way to become a great leader. My own personal model of leadership stems from mainly the military, but also different parts of different jobs I had prior to joining the Army. From day one in the army they start instilling the “Army Values”.
The second lesson was that a leader needs to be seen as someone who is thriving under a difficult circumstance. This will inspire Soldiers to do their best because they will push themselves if they see you doing the same. As I said, easy lessons, but they need reinforcement. 3. Platoon Leader: A Memoir of Command in Combat by James R. McDonough Corey James: There are other books out there that pertain to our current operational environment, but not many that cover leadership like Platoon Leader.
I am an expert and I am a professional.1 Every day, Basic Training Soldiers mutter these words as they recite the Soldier’s Creed. What does it mean to be a professional? Professionals use inspirational, intrinsic factors like the life-long pursuit of expert knowledge, the privilege and honor of service, camaraderie, and the status of membership in an ancient, honorable, and revered occupation.2 The United States Army is a Profession of Arms compromised of experts certified in the ethical application of land combat power, serving under civilian authority, entrusted to defend the Constitution and the rights and interests of the American people.2 The purpose of this essay is to identify why the Human Resources (HR) Sergeant has an integral role in the Profession of Arms.
I want to enroll in the Army ROTC program to create an opportunity to serve my country as a leader of character and gain the knowledge I will need to be successful. By being a part of the ROTC program in college I will be able to gain experience through training, classes that will have a distinct effect on my future. I believe that the ROTC program will give me opportunities that I wouldn’t normally be able to experience; this will help develop my leadership skills. Having these capabilities will be an important virtue in fulfilling my duties as an Army officer. All my life I’ve always wanted difficult challenges and been determined to excel in each of them.
They are also expected to be followed in a war-time, combat environment, however an additional meaning or expectation may be attached to certain values in combat. Also, the punishment for disobeying or not following one of the values is much greater, whether the punishment be through Uniformed Code of Military Justice, or in the form of how a Soldier is viewed by his or her superiors, during war time. Army values emphasize the relationship between character and competence. Although competence is a fundamental attribute of Army leaders, character is even more critical. This appendix discusses the actions Army leaders take to develop their subordinates' character.
Leadership to me, means the ability to attain four things: social intelligence, initiative, setting a good example, and inspiration. These do not come naturally, but are acquired through continual work and study. A truly great leader is continually working and studying to improve their leadership skills. To be an effective leader, the Marines have provided a number of principles. Again, in their basic manual they say, "… if we expect Marines to lead and if we expect Marines to follow, we must provide the education of the heart and mind to win on the battlefield and in the barracks, in war and peace."
Upholding these values day-to-day is the most important role of a Soldier. Loyalty is important to the Army because it is our obligation to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. We take an oath as Soldiers which is critical to the success in order to build trust. Duty is not only fulfilling your obligations but making a continual dedicated effort to do what is right. Respect is important because society needs to have a positive perception of the Army in order for it to be successful.
Running head: DEVELOPMENT OF ARMY LEADERS Development of Army Leaders Teda A. Cooks United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 60 SGM Parthiban October 1, 2009 Development of Army Leaders Although some people are born with the ability to become successful military leaders faster than others, rather they are developed into leaders. The Army has several tools in place to help its leaders learn and grow including institutional training and guidance outlines in several publications. These tools can be used for self development and the development of subordinate leaders. The lesson provided on Leader Assessment and Development at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy provided information on these tools that will assist me in my duties as sergeant major over the next 10 years of my career. The development of competent and capable leaders is important to Army organizations and the United States military as a whole.
Espirit De Corps in a unit can be based on the experience and history of the unit as well as customs and traditions unique to it. The army as a whole works to improve Espirit De Corps by ensuring promotions and advancement are based on merit, and continuing to show that being “Army Strong” is something special to strive for.Military expertise is the ethical design, generation, support, and application of land power, primarily in unified land operations, and all supporting capabilities essential to accomplish the mission in defense of the American people. Military Expertise must be applied to develop expert knowledge, apply military expertise, and certify army professionals and organizations. The army develops expert knowledge by providing the best possible training for its soldiers and enabling senior enlisted and officers to pass down their experiences and knowledge to new soldiers. The army must also have an expert knowledge of the enemy and likely enemies they may face and the best tactics and strategies to combat them.
What makes a leader successful has to basically do with to things that are within true leaders hearts and minds. His, or her job, duty, and/or tasks, and caring for his,, or her Soldiers. In other words it is my way of say a NCOs two most basic responsibilities, the accomplishment of the mission (be it job, duty, or task) and the welfare of the Soldier First I will go over the a leaders mission. I can go over many things that make a leader successful but I will try to break it down when it comes to missions. Being in the military for a few years know I seen good leaders and I seen great leaders.
