Kaysha Alejandro Professor Belt WC-150 December 10, 2014 In the documentary “Buena Vista Social Club” the director discusses the lifestyle and biography of Cuban artists. Bueno Vista means, “Good view” in Spanish. The Buena Vista Club was a club of Cuban musicians that were recruited by Juan de Marco Gonzalez. The viewers and fans are not well aware of the obstacles it took to be part of the group. However, in the documentary we witness and are aware of the tragedies each artist has faced.
They was put into prison for this movement, but later on set free, because of international help. The people of the Dominican Republic loved these sisters, because they were the first people to take a stand against Trujillo. And they weren’t afraid to show it. They knew that Trujillo was a dictator and couldn’t take any more of his abusive leadership. So, they did something about it.
They felt that it is better to do nothing, except what the guards told them. They didn’t want, act, or feel anything so they wouldn’t get in trouble. He was a politician that would speak out about slavery but would still employ slaves for his own use. Thomas Jefferson always knew that slavery one day would end, but he made no efforts during his lifetime to accelerate the process. . His life seems to be a perfect example of hypocrisy. He believed African Americans were inferior to white’s people and thought the two races could not co-exist peacefully in freedom.
The prisoners at Shawshank do not have full freedom because they must live by the rules of prison and not their own. Andy Dufresne experienced unlimited freedom before he came to prison and he came up with a plan to regain that freedom back so he could understand his existence. Existentialism tries to answer the question of mankind’s value in society. Andy once told Red, “You get busy dying, I’ll get busy living.” This quote embodies Andy’s idea of life in prison that by staying within the prison walls, like Red had planned, he will never find freedom; this quote insinuates that without freedom
One of the characters in the novel “There Are No Children Here” did a lot of bad things that his mind didn’t accept just for the purpose to be accepted by his team. “Terence wanted to fit in, to be accepted by his peers “and the meaning of that is all of Terence intention in doing the stuff he did was for fitting in. Terence Lafayette older brother who grow up in the projects wanted to confirm to what other people in there did so he started doing armed robbery, joined a gang, and gave into the peer pressure because his desire was to belong to that place and that group of people. However he knew that the route he wanted to take wasn’t the best for him but he still took it anyway and the reason was his desires to be accepted by others. In 2000’s teenage society most of the teenagers confirm too many things because they want to fit in.
Many students do this, because it is fun. It’s the thrill of doing something they’re forbidden to do. If drinking were made legal for eighteen-year-olds, there wouldn’t be as much of a thrill or excitement to it. Yet another legitimate reason to lower the drinking age to eighteen is that there are young men and women who don’t look old enough to be holding a gun fighting for our freedom and risking their own necks every day. But they are denied the right to drink an alcoholic beverage after being shot at in the sand all day.
