Students in the current education system are finding information and data from a broad range of sources. This results in digital pedagogies emerging and enhancing the teachers means of conducting lessons. If a student were not able to experience and learn about technology, teachers would not be preparing their students for the future. Teacher’s digital pedagogy, refers to the attitude and aptitude with digital technologies, or the willingness and understandings of the teachers to use technology in the classroom effectively, (Howell, 2012, p.6). Breaking this term down, digital is described, as the electronic technology that generates information, then store and processes this information. Pedagogy is the teaching method incorporating the principles and strategies of the instruction. Howell, 2012, states, “teachers need a digital pedagogy,” (p.5). “Digital pedagogies move beyond using information communication technology, for efficiency motivation and effectiveness to adding value to society and the economy by enabling the creation, distribution, sharing and application of knowledge to complex problems encountered in the real world situations of work and life,” (UNESCO, 2008). Technology creates excitement for educators as it creates potential interest and motivation for themselves and their students, (Howell, 2012). Teachers need to develop a lot skills required for understandings of technology and the learning theories that accompany them. Correct information aids teachers to choose the right technology to enhance to learning outcome. A teacher’s digital aptitude is grounded in theoretical understandings as teachers need to understand the learning theories. Technology in teaching has shown positive developments in the learning theories of constructionism, and connectivism. Constructionism is active learning with the use of technology, (Howell, 2012, p.9).
