So why can’t they enjoy a few beers legally? That is the question asked by many and has yet an exact and final answer on whether it will be allowed. According to David J. Hanson, an alcohol policy expert at the State University of New York-Potsdam, “Raising the drinking age to 21 was passed with the very best of intentions, but it’s had the very worst of outcomes” (Johnson, 1). Drinking in young people is becoming a serious problem as days move on, but having the drinking age at 21 is not helping solve these problems. Something
However, these teenagers also live in fear of getting caught for drinking and thus, consume their alcohol in unsafe environments; typically, these dwellings are where they can “escape” disturbances and predicaments, but usually encounter more. These environments are generally unsupervised and in groups of “children” that are ignorant of responsible drinking habits. Due to their apprehension of being caught, teenagers tend to never confess to an adult of the troubles they encountered as they drank and, therefore, may further affect their experience. Thus, if the drinking age was lowered to eighteen, a teenager would have the ability to be more straightforward with their drinking and would be able to drink in more supervised locations. They would also begin to drink in moderation since there is no longer the appeal of a “forbidden” rebellion.
Many are for this idea yet some strongly oppose for good reason. Though, lowering the drinking age but having to go through a course to be able to use alcohol is a good idea. Young adults are exposed to alcohol consumption every day from peers, family members, and advertisement. There are music videos and rock bands that give out the message that alcohol; drugs and sex are an inevitable part of life. These ideals created by the media might not be necessarily appropriate.
The drinking age isn't meant to be a big deal, but the first couple years of lowering the drinking age could cause many students to be reckless. There are many responsibilities that come along with drinking at a low age, most importantly drinking and driving. Lowering the age will reduce all such problems, but at first will seem extremely hectic. Lowering the current drinking age of 21-and-over will allow young Americans, most of who are perfectly capable of drinking responsibly; to no longer drink in private or in short amounts of time, thus alleviating potentially dangerous conditions. Drinking privately is extremely unsafe and when kids are in a situation they can't handle, they can then ask for help.
European countries have a lower legal drinking and appear to have lesser alcohol related problems. Trying to enforce the drinking age of 21 is ineffective and pricey. Even though the law says one has to be 21, teen drinking is a major problem and there will never be a way to stop it. It would be more effective to spend money on educating the youth about how to drink responsibly rather than attempt to enforce the drinking age of 21 and continuously waste money and effort.” For 21 years, the legal drinking age has been set at 21 years. This has been an issue topic for quite some time now, and more states are considering revising the law.
To Change or Not A long debated issue in the United States is the age at which one can drink. As many youth feel, the drinking age should be lowered. On the contrary, the drinking age should stay right where it is or even be raised. Alcohol is a drug that is potentially addictive. Alcohol intoxicates the brain, leaving you feeling disoriented and slowing your reflexes.
The Drinking Age The following paper is going to explain some of the reasons why the drinking age should not be lowered to 18. It is going to review other’s opinions as well as my own. There will be a lot of statistics that will prove that it will be dangerous to lower the age to 18 but you can decide for yourself. There are many people that don’t want the drinking age to be lowered. However, a lot of college presidents think otherwise.
The drinking age should be lowered because of many studies showing that to be 21 to drink legally is not helping anything. One main study to support my opinion is the irresponsible manner we drink as underage drinkers and the percentages from now to then when you could be 18 and drink legally. My second issue is how easy it is to get alcohol and you can bust as many people as you can but your never going to stop underage drinking. My other point I like to point out is the history of laws being passed and what has changed now from then in the drinking laws. In this report I?m going to express how drinking is not to be seen as poison or a really bad thing to do if we just handle the way we drink in a more responsible manner.
The more normal and accepted alcohol becomes, the easier it is for people to ignore the dangers of alcohol abuse. Second is a social pressure; many of us have had our first drink from some kind of social pressure. Maybe it was a group of friends having their first underage party. If you think colleague pressure would stop after high school and college, for many peoples it does not. For example, visiting friends or special events such as weddings or family reunions may also include social pressure and expectations to drink.
This may cause them to land up being in a situation like the one presented in the two adverts. They do not reflect my experience of alcohol as I myself do not drink excessively. I believe that one should respect the age limit of drinking as it is there for a reason. However I do believe that both these adverts apply to teenagers all around the world as it's not just British teens getting drunk but it's teenagers from all around the world who face the same
