Prior to reviewing the article, my sense of wellness was that it was an active process, such as exercising or praying, to become more aware of one self in order to make better choices toward a more successful existence of life. Meyers and Sweeney view wellness as a way of life in which the mind, body, and spirit are all integrated by the individual to live life more fully and within a natural community. They use the models such as the Wheel of Wellness and the Indivisible Self to illustrate how wellness provides a more conceptualized way for the counselor to create an environment that encourages wellness, a positive state of well-being, and a wellness-enhancing intervention. The Wheel of Wellness was one of the first models depicting wellness in the counseling field. The initial Wheel of Wellness sought to identify the correlation between health, the quality of life, and longetivity.
In addition, those who undergo or encounter prolonged exposure to a series of traumatic instances and long lasting unnatural functions of emotional and social occurences tend to develop a more complicated form of PTSD called C-PTSD or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Individuals who suffer from PTSD tend to re-experience the traumatic event or events in some way and because of this they attempt to avoid certain places, people related to the incident and things that remind them of the event. PTSD sufferers are also extremely sensitive to normal life
These links provide the key to a holistic understanding of health, which is central to the definition of health promotion. The concept of health promotion is based on the interpretation of social and cultural health, and disease. Health Promotion as defined by O’Donnell (2009) is “the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health”. Optimal health is a balance of physical, spiritual, psychological and social health. Health promotion enables people to increase control over their health and to improve their health, which does not rely solely on one discipline of health but is rather a multidisciplinary scope that intertwines health education and health interventions and involves individuals, family, communities, state and federal government.
In his view, optimal development is a continuous process and not a static state. Rogers describes this as the good life, where the organism continually aims to achieve its full potential. This is what he calls a “fully functioning person” (Rogers 1961). As a care worker, I apply his theory by being open and honest, listening to and understanding individuals, and giving acceptance and approval to the individuals, all which enables them to grow. In conclusion, instead of the question “How can I help this person?” I am focusing on the question “How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?” Application of person-centred value approaches in health and social care Explain how and why person-centred values must influence all aspects of health and social care Person-centred approaches influence today all aspects of health and social care by putting the individuals in the centre of all decisions regarding their care, in a way that help them live their lives in
As I fulfill my mission as a counselor, the therapeutic process must be given the time to work if the client is to achieve their personal goals and gain the necessary insight into their lives. By improving the wellness of clients, I strengthen their personal growth. The general goal of counseling is to help people become more empowered to see new and positive views and find the life style for healthier living and happier lives in their personal life, relationships, service, and work. Specifically, mental health counselors
The term professional burnout is described as “physical, emotional and mental exhaustion that results from long-term involvement in work situations that are emotionally demanding” (Wlodarczyk, & Lazarewicz, 2011 p.848), highlighting how the work place environment is directly affecting an individual’s health and well-being. When trying to connect the concepts of stress and professional burnout, studies indicted a high level of prolonged stress leads into professional burnout (Gandi & Dagona, 2011). Professional burnout in nursing has been published in multiple professional journals including; research, ethics, nursing management, as well as other
For some of these individuals mental health is extreme and persistent, so for this reason bereavement is a concern for clinical practise. The definition of grief is the main emotional reaction to bereavement, incorporating psychological and physical reactions. Over the past few decades, scientific study of the symptoms, mental health outcomes and ways of coping with this sort of grief has grown rapidly. Psychological reactions to bereavement are diverse, differentiating between individuals as well as cultures, age groups and ethnic groups. Bereavement is a very distressing experience for most people that causes a considerable amount of upset and disruption of everyday life.
According to the article "What Is Combat PTSD?”, Diagnosing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be hard because soldiers view reporting their symptoms as a sign of weakness (What, 1). This makes it difficult to get an accurate idea of exactly how many men and women return from war with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Those who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder often relive the horrendous events they have experienced in combat. Behaviors of this disorder can take on many forms. Sufferers may have a hard time relaxing, experience anxiety, and they often battle depression.
From the understanding of how a person can adapt the human body and mind to a present scenario/situation to Watson’s Human Caring Theory, theories have been the back bone of all nursing education. The correct applications of theoretical models have known to create positive ripples in a health care plan. “A caring environment is one that offers the development of potential while allowing the person to choose the best action for himself or herself at a given point of time, the appropriate establishment of a caring environment will promote health, individual, and family growth,” (Wastson, 2012). The humanistic approach of the health profession as well as its’ roots are the values that are followed by heath care providers when providing care to those in need. The caring practice of healthcare personnel is directed toward providing compassion to ease patients and families distress levels and to promote their wellness.
Roger use these therapy in treating individual as a person to improve his quality of life. Carl establish supporting evidence that individual inductive knowledge as the fundamental healthful effect. He also states that the therapeutic process is substantial achievement made by the patient. He strongly believed that his structured analysis should be practice rather than the other way round. His persuasion for the improvement of care is based on sincerely felt or expressed in a genuine emotion in helping patient grief.
