Sixteen year olds have yet to live life, so they shouldn't be awarded adult privileges at such a young age. A simple civics course would have to know for that exact election whom and what they are voting for thus making it harder to teach because it changes every year which also makes it expensive. Just because a student passes a simple civics course doesn't mean that they're going to do what they feel is right when it comes down to voting. Therefore, due to age, cost and moral factors sixteen year olds should not be allowed to obtain a voters permit and vote. Why sixteen year olds should not be allowed to obtain a voters permit and vote because Sixteen year olds have yet to live life, so they shouldn't be awarded adult privileges at such a young age.
However, in one way not all young people do. Some young teenagers have political apathy where they are uninterested in the political world. A survey taken by two teenagers for the BBC News shows that most of the young people they talked to didn't want to vote or wanted anything to do with politics. Additionally, young people may actually abuse this right to vote as they may not be aware of what each political party offers or which they truly want to vote for, and therefore would be uneducated and so, uninformed. The fact that they may not appreciate the right means that it would be possible for young people to affect the way the country is run where this could be negative, especially if they are ignorant.
Professors believe that racism could be prevented through education; however, no research has proven this method to be effective. Despite the good intentions, these education programs would be ineffective due to the way humans think and the way they are influenced. Education programs in elementary schools designed to teach young students about racial issues would be useless. Educators believe if these children are taught about racial problems before they are old enough to form their own opinions, racism could be prevented. However, because racism originates from the home, any outside influences are pointless at the Cowan 2 elementary age.
Many EMG children also do not have that initial push of how important education is for them. They may have a fatalistic view on where they see themselves fitting into to society which may rub on to their children. Sugarman did a lot of research on this and found it as being one of the top reasons why children can fail in education. Children who believe their future is already predetermined will not put as much focus on education as they think they will only get working-class jobs. As parents may be new to the UK or not speak English they may not understand the educational system and the application process.
Most people thinks that it makes no sense that you, at 18, have the adult mind to join the armed forces, but you are not old enough to have a drink before you go off to war. This could be considered an idiotic reason and this reason is not good enough. You may hear that it will loosen you up and help you relax. What you may not hear is that it can damage the part of your brain that controls coordination, memory, judgment and decision-making. Drinking makes you dumber!
So why are so many teenagers stressed to succeed academically? And is it this stress that leads them to drink to excess? All of these questions should be asked and students should be a big part of the discussion. Experts say “Alcohol is used already by young people more heavily and more frequently than all other drugs combined.” The average age for teens to start drinking is 13. The earlier in life one starts to drink the more likely it is that he or she will
1.1 - Explain the issues that may affect young people who are excluded, including access to services or amenities, crime or anti-social behaviour, isolation or stigmatisation. It has been proven that young people who are excluded from school or choose not to go to school by the age of around 12 or 13 are more than likely to go and take part in anti-social behaviour, crime, drinking, drug use and underage sex. They are more likely to move onto more serious crime and drug use later in their lives as they will not have any qualifications or experience or be able to successfully get and maintain a job although most of them have an ambition to work, but some would happily accept to live their full life on benefits. When a child or young person is excluded from school they may get bored of having nothing to do and hang around the streets either on their own, or with older people who have left school or have also been excluded. These young people them become a nuisance for other people such as shopkeepers, if they are hanging around at the local shops causing trouble.
To begin to acknoweldge why young people may be apathetic towards the modern political process, it is crucial to understand how the youth view politics and how these views have been acquired. For some it would seem that there is a definite lack of education in what politics is, rather than a complete lack of interest. The National Curriculum consists of 4 key stages and it is not until Citizenship lessons at key stage 3 (11 - 14 years old) that British children are taught "knowledge and understanding about becoming informed citizens" (National Curriculum Online: nc.uk.net) which includes topics on politics. Because of the legal obligations to schools to abide by the National Curriculum many find it difficult or impossible to offer content outside of its scope - the result being that only National Curriculum material is covered. In terms of political education, this means that many children have had no educational of politics since the introduction of the National Curriculum in 1989.
When Should Teens Be Able To Make Their Own Decisions ? Most parents think that teenagers aren’t old enough to make their own decisions and comprehend. Therefore, they always make the decisions for their teenage children. This may effect teenagers futures because they will become dependent on their parents and will not be able to make their own decisions correctly. Neither will they have their own goals or ambitious because everything in their lives was made up and decided by their parents.
In result, lack of discipline from parents along with mimicking their friends’ attitudes toward one another exemplifies few factors that influences teen rudeness. Nowadays, a modern family would focus on their careers more than focusing on their family. As kids age 13 to 19 move from childhood to maturity, they often experiment with language to express their boundaries and talk back to parents in ways that are inappropriate. It then becomes the parents’ duty to instruct their children how to speak with respect to authorities. The problem arises when parents fail to teach their children the correct way of behaving toward adults.
