Though some may disagree on this point, the fact is that legalized abortion is the only option that will protect the lives of American citizens. One only needs to look into American history to see the results of prohibiting abortions to women. The process of abortions has definitely come a long way. Even after abortion was legalized, women were still very afraid to go to the abortion facilities because they were afraid of being attached just for entering the building. It is better now that they have a place to go where abortions can be performed cleanly and with minimal risk.
Pro Choice A topic that is very controversial in today’s American society is whether or not abortions and stem cell research should be legal or not. There are more facts that prove these topics should be legal. The 9th Amendment states the American’s right of pro choice. Abortion should be kept legal because there are many reasons why the mother should not have the baby. Also because abortions are legal then stem cell research should be made legal because if a fetus is already killed then it can still be put to good scientific research and possibly help another human being.
Those people who are not in favor of abortion has the choice to not abort a baby and to those who has different religious and moral beliefs, like we all do, should have the right to stand what they think is right and moral and should not have to live on the belief system of other people. If a woman feels and knows that her pregnancy is harmful for her and for the baby’s physical and mental health, and if she knows that the child will grow up in poor environment, she should have the choice to do what she thinks is right, to do what she wants, and to decide for herself. Abortion is something that needs to be decided based on a person’s own beliefs and no one has the right to decide this for someone else. Do some people know what it is like to be a young, goal oriented woman, having an entire great future, and then she is suddenly facing difficult decision of choosing her great future or having an unwanted child? You
By doing so, she taking away the fetus’ life because it would be so inconvenient for her in the short run of her life. It is because of her reasoning that Tammy should continue with the pregnancy. The moment she decided to keep the child is the moment she decided she was ready to raise that child, and terminating the pregnancy at that point would be an act of unjust killing, seeing as how greatly developed the fetus
Even though the pregnancy is terminated the process of abortion is still distress for the women to experience. Abortion is not something that should not be taken lightly and should never be the solution for being irresponsible and reckless. Even though women have the right to choose, they still seek medical advice to know the side effect of terminating a pregnancy. Women that have abortions are at a higher risk for reproductive tract infections which include HIV/AIDS and PID. It is a never ending battle between Pro-life activist and Pro-choice activist and they both have great points of view.
Conclusion Birth Control Funding Contraception is the use of various devices to prevent pregnancy. People today believe that the only contraception out there is condoms. They are not aware of the different birth controls out there and that is mainly because they can’t afford it and it’s not covered in their health insurance. Health companies should be more reliable and they should cover their customers better. Health companies should provide coverage for Birth Control because it will make it more affordable for women to obtain Birth Control, it helps prevent illnesses but the unborn are threatened.
Short Paper on A Defense of Abortion by J. J. Thomson In the article A Defense of Abortion, Judith Jarvis Thomson exposes the idea that fetuses are considered persons from the moment of conception and, therefore, they have the right to life. However, Thomson argues that abortion under certain circumstances can be morally permissible. Based on these ideas Thompson implemented thought experiments such as the analogies of the violinist and the “drifting seeds”, which doesn’t really give an adequate explanation for why abortion is sometimes permissible. Thus, based on my understanding of these analogies I believe that Thomson’s arguments are not convincing and, therefore, abortion should not be permissible. Thomson explains that the fetus is a person who has the right to life.
It directly opposes human rights. Abortion should not be used as a matter of contraceptive either. It can have harmful effects on the mother later in life and can leave damage to the body. It can cause a woman to have other complications during pregnancies later in life. In addition to that there are studies that prove that breast cancer is heightened in women who had an abortion earlier in life.
Ashley Schilling Dr. Clewis PHL 2000 28 April 2009 Abstract Abortion is a controversial issue in which people choose to be either pro-choice or pro-life. Pro-choice supporters argue that the woman has a right to control what happens to her body and it is morally permissible to abort an unborn child if the woman wishes to. Pro-life supporters believe that the unborn child has rights to life and that it is wrong to abort a human being. I am pro-life and believe that abortion is morally wrong, because the unborn child is still a human and has the same rights to life as any other human. There are other choices a woman can make besides abortion that are morally right.
In this landmark case, the Court ruled that a pregnancy may be aborted during the first trimester, because the embryo is not yet viable. During the second trimester, the state may decide to protect the woman’s health by regulating the manner in which the abortion occurs. However, the Court ruled that during the third trimester, the developing child is capable of surviving on its own and, therefore; the state then has the power to deny the woman an abortion. After this ruling many pro-choice individuals argued that it was an inappropriate intrusion of the government into the people’s affairs; but as a result many young lives were saved. Abortion is unnecessary and the statistics prove it.
