I ask her what part of the shower she can do on her own(wash her hands, face, under her arms, groins) and what part needs my support (back, feet). 1.3 We agree on the level of privacy she needs also by talking, I ask her when or if she wants me to leave the bathroom so she can have some privacy or hold
I would need to comply with health and safety requirements in respect of manual handling and use of PPE to help control infection. Standards that influence my role are.. I used the good communication skills with the another nursing staff to get Mark into the bath safely. I encouraged Mark to do as much for himself as he is able as this promotes his self-esteem (Roper et al 1996). I communicate to Mark to find out whether he uses soap, bubble bath and if he would like his hair washed today. When I was bathing him under the supervision, it was a good opportunity for me to assess his skin condition, as he may be more at risk from developing
For example when assisting a service user to have a bath, shower or to use the toilet you must always wear the PPE (personal protective equipment) provided when removing any soiled clothing you must dispose of it in the correct way using the sluice bags that are provided and the sluice bags should be tided shut thus preventing any infection among other service users clothes. Any PPE used should be disposed of in the room you have used and before leaving that room employees must ensure they wash their hands using the correct hand washing method displayed. Another responsibility employees have is to prepare and maintain environment before and after patient care making sure all PPE is worn if there are any bodily fluids in the room i.e. on the floor sink etc this spiliage should be cleaned up immediately using the appropriate disinfectant cleaning products to prevent any infection spreading such as MRSA, C Diff and the norovirus. Q: 1.2 Explain employers’ respsonsibilitys in relation to the prevention and control of infection.
The principles of infection prevention and control * 1.1) Employee’s roles and responsibilities- Our responsibility is to use the correct methods of personal protective equipment (PPE) We must get regular training and be aware of the law with regard to health and safety, control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) and various infection control regulations with regard to personal care and hygiene in the home. The focus is making sure there is as little cross contamination as possible when dealing with roles within the home. This would include using simple techniques where appropriate such as correct use of protective gloves when dealing with personal care and the safe management of clinical waste, correct use of cleaning equipment and following food hygiene code and practices. I wash my hands using the appropriate technique at all times when contamination is possible and before touching residents. The home is residents are safeguarded at all time from cross contamination by developing a strict habit of hand washing when hygiene is an issue using protective equipment to stop cross contamination.
Using PPE like gloves and aprons also helps reduce the spread of infection. PPE should be removed as soon as you leave the individuals working environment. Encouraging the individual's personal hygiene:- Some individuals will require prompting to undertake their personal hygiene, some will require assistance to undertake their personal hygiene and some individuals with require their personal hygiene to be undertaken on their behalf. Educating the individuals to the reasons why personal hygiene is important and the benefits that it brings to quality of life and dignity should be explained. Unit
They must also wash hands after using the toilet and before handling food. At all times they must be wearing appropriate PPE and must follow the procedures of disposing of waste safely. They must keep contact items clean and must always report any potential hazards. These things are a part of the code of conduct for care workers and they help with minimising the risk of an outbreak of infection. Care workers have a role in reporting infections or disease outbreaks.
Keeping the patient clean and keeping up with good hygiene such as bathing and oral care is another important piece. The patient would be turned and monitored so that no additional problems arise in addition to the medical problems Mildred is already experiencing. A peaceful environment would be kept as well as pastoral services and anything else needed for psychosocial needs. 3.
