Discuss the nature-nurture debate in relation to the development of an individual – M1 The nature-nurture debate has been going on for 100’s of years. The argument between people who are born smart or whether it was an individual’s upbringing is a still a mystery. In jasmines case, when nature is stated, it means her characteristics she has inherited from her parents, this can include, hair colour, eye colour, nose etc., whereas nurture means her upbringing, the way her environment around her has shaped her, for example her friends, upbringing or education setting she attended. Physical: Jasmin’s physical appearance can be said it has been effected by both nature and nurture, this is as Jasmin is born as a normal individual with all body parts in place. However she was affected by nurture as it was her state of bringing which defined what kind of food Jasmin ate while she was growing up, for example a healthy diet with all the right vitamins means she was affected as she was healthy. As Jasmin found herself through the years the way she determined her appearance was also affected, this is ensuring that her daily balanced diet eaten and her health checks are maintained as she continues to enjoy her life and the reflection would be seen in her skin and general outlook. Intellectual: It can be easily said that she did not inherit her ability to be smart, as she grew older she expanded her knowledge, this is all due to her socialisation, her primary and secondary socialisation was well so it affected her to do better. Her progress and achievement in school led her to university and pursing her law degree. Due to her nurture, her environment it would make no difference of her achievements. Emotional: The emotional aspect of Jasmin’s life is determined by her nurture, this is because she is effected by the environment, for example if her parents always argued
