In 1830 the railroad expansion from 73 miles in 1830 to 30,636 miles in 1860 which trespassed into Native American homelands, violating the treaty of Fort Laramine. Thousands of Indians were forced into reservations, which was another violation of the treaty of Fort Laramine. In result of the expansion into Native American homelands destroyed the civilization. When the western settlers hired men to kill buffalo off buffalo it rapidly reduced the population of the sacred animal to the Indians. This also destroyed the traditional use of the buffalo.
The housing market also plummeted leading to negative equity, which the majority of the working class could not afford resulting in the repossession of their houses combined with the drastic increase in unemployment Britain was in a mess. However Major did have some success, he abolished poll tax, which was very popular among the public, he increased spending on the NHS and introduced transport subsides to keep travel fares low.
The Universal Negro Improvement Association was founded. It helped black people to set up their own businesses but this collapsed. Problems These movements failed to change the USA. Many black people lived in great poverty, in poorer housing than whites but paid higher rents. They had poorer education and health services than whites and suffered great prejudice.
The population was estimated to have dropped 50-60%, so the prices of goods rapidly dropped, since there were so few people still alive to buy it. The lower levels of the social chain, like the peasants, serfs, farmers, and factory workers were struck the hardest. (Pollama) Since their living and work conditions were not very sanitary, and their living spaces were often cramped and dirty, they were the easiest targets for the plague. All of the jobs that these people had were now open, and available for people to take. Since the serf population had gotten ridiculously low, plantation owners were forced to start paying workers to tend the farms.
Disease brought with the French quickly killed many Natives because they didn’t have any immunes built up. Another fault was that Indians quickly became dependent upon the manufactured goods of the French such as kettles and
Despite their freedom, the serfs had it better off in bondage of nobility, than the bondage of government, and then, poverty. The ordeals created a common revolutionary rage in the serf community. This resulted in social turmoil, through rebellions and political opposition from the nobility, whom had lost their private workforce. The results of the abolition were chaotic, but would leave an eternal mark in the course of Russian
We are always taught that the white settlers came and took all the Indians’ land and killed many of them in doing so. Both of those are terrible things, but it is even more important to look more closely, and realize the smaller, just as important things that were ruined, like the incredible, self taught languages that they developed. Now, we can look back and appreciate the language for being so incredible, but we can also look back feeling shameful that something like that happened. It is such a shame that a sense of greed (land and expansion) on the settlers’ parts led to the destruction and near extinction of the people that were here
Because of this, they endured more and more prejudice. Old traditional industries The traditional industries failed to respond to the new mass-production methods of the 1920s, unlike the Ford company that was making a good profit and could pay impressive wages. Also, following a reduction in the powers of Labor Unions (Trade Unions), the workers were not in a position to be able to claim better wages and working conditions in the old industries. * Coal - Coal prices fell and thousands had to be made redundant because the industry was producing too much coal and not enough people and countries wanted to buy it. * Ship building - Another major industry that had to make thousands redundant due to a reduction in the demand for new ships.
Importing and exporting goods and supplies was banned quickly once people realized the pestilence was spread by these trade men. Since there was nowhere to get supplies from, cities had to provide for themselves. With the scarce amount of goods on hand, and the high demand for them, prices skyrocketed. Most of the workers were dead; those who weren’t, charged up to five times what they had before the plague. As the workers’ wages outpaced the prices of goods, the workers began to become rich and skilled in what they did.
The introduction of the Indian Removal Act saw numerous tribes displaced from their ancestral homes time and time again, and while the rest of America prospered, they were forced onto small plots of land, and not even formally recognised as citizens of their own country. The buffalo which they depended on were slaughtered, causing widespread starvation, and every time they retaliated against this appalling treatment it only served to further reinforce unfair stereotypes which still haunt them to this day. Hopefully, by examining the mistakes of the past, people will avoid repeating them in the
