Running Head: The Value of Digital Privacy in an Information Age Interactive Activity Iris Shelton Strayer University Legal 500 August 1, 2012 1. List and describe at least three (3) technologies that allow an individual to research citizens’ private data. Global Positioning System (GPS) location information, cellular-phone-general information and online purchases while utilizing personal computers are three technologies that allow an individual to research citizen’s private data. In today’s world information technology researchers has become more savvy by utilizing hardware that increases the amount of information that can be gathered and stored and the speed with which that information can be analyzed and changing the economics of what it is possible to do with information technology. The three major ways for collecting the citizen’s personal information is explained below. Automobiles contain GPS sensors, as part of either a navigation system or a driver aid system. As these devices become smaller and more pervasive, they become less noticeable; leading to the gathering of data in contexts while gathering the information is neither expected nor noticed. As technology advances and GPS users allow more access to their private data. Users are also able to utilize GPS in place of Bluetooth devises, download music, and track daily routine while saving all this information while privacy is being compromised. Cellular phone networks gather position information for 911 calling, which could be used to track the locations of their users. In addition, technology advances in which the cellular phone somewhat mirrors a personal computer in reference to downloading several applications from third parties that allows individual to research one’s private data.
