He watched his mother change everyday and go through stages of her depression. He was so afraid that his mother would die and he felt responsible for his mothers illness. His mother always talked about death and as if it were her last day so he thought that she would die soon. Gates developed certain “ rituals” to help his mother. The reader can conclude that Gates really loved his mother and admired her.
She cannot let go, and blames her sister for the death of her son. She wants revenge, but also feels that she needs it and cannot let go. She had her son taken from her by her sister, as she had her child illegitimately and caused shame upon her family. You have sympathy for her here as she does not deserve to have her son taken away from her. It seems unfair, as she loves her child but she knew the consequences of having a child outside marriage, so knew what would happen to her and her son.
“The picture of that girl, the fact that she had lived neighbor to that girl for twenty years, and had let her die for lack of life, was suddenly more than [Mrs. Hale] could bear” (194). She feels responsible and blames herself for what has happened to Minnie. She believes that the reason that she stayed away - “because it weren’t cheerful” (192) was the very reason she should have gone to see Minnie. She reacts to her refusal to visit Minnie as a crime in itself. “Oh, I wish I’d come over here once in a while!” she cried.
I get the feeling that she was sick from before because of the fact that she killed her husband and went into hiding. I also sympathize with her because if my husband or any family member was brain dead I kind-of would’ve wanted to end their suffering too but at least stick around to do the time after, instead of running away like you planned it. Maybe while her husband was “dead” she snapped and just couldn’t take it anymore, standing around waiting for your loved one to die is just horrible, and maybe during that timing she just had a break down physiologically, and emotionally.
His authority drove him mad; he started to kill the innocent like the family of Macduff for no reason. Besides taking away lives, he showed no remorse when his wife died: “She(Lady Macbeth) should have died hereafter,”(Act V, scene v). Macbeth's ambition for power clearly caused him to neglect morals/ethics; even the slightest sense of humanity diminished within his ambition. His ambition for power caused him to perform these heinous actions. Sociologically, grieving within families is not an easy task. Each family member reacts to death differently and forces family members to make changes in their lives in order to adjust to life without this family member. Raney and Charles had a hard time accepting the suicide of Uncle Nate. When Charles voiced his opinion that Uncle Nate was clearly depressed, obsessive-compulsive, and crippled from his life experiences, thus needing psychological help in order to heal, Raney took it as an insult. In Raney’s mind, Charles was placing blame on her, her family, and specifically, her mother who spent most of her time taking care of Uncle Nate.
After Mercutio’s death, Romeo lashes out, thus leading to another one of his impulsive acts, seeking revenge on Tybalt for killing his best friend. Just before running off to take vengeance on Tybalt, Romeo states, “This day's black fate on more days doth depend; this but begins the woe others must end” (3.1.120-121) Because Romeo intuitively pursues Tybalt; he is killed as well, fueling the ever burning family rivalry. Romeo is then banished causing his mother, Lady Montague, to die of a broken heart in her sorrow for the loss of her only son. The morning after her death, Lord Montague said to the Friar, “Alas, my liege, my wife is dead to-night! Grief of my son's exile hath stopp'd her breath.” (5.3.219-220).
“Katherine has admitted it, confessed.” Katherine’s fear of losing her life motivated her to confess that her and a few others were telepathic. First she had a fear about her abilities being found out but then she had to fear her life if she did not tell the norms what was so different about her and why she was running away. “I’ve killed him Michael. He’s quite dead.” Rosalind’s fears lead her to kill a man, yet she felt so guilty about it, although they tortured many of her kind. She may have felt guilty as she thought the norms would find out that she killed the man and then they would kill her.
The women use their emotions in order to figure out that Mrs. Wright did commit the murder. By the end of the play they decide to protect her because they seemed to relate to the abuse she endured in the household. The murder was justifiable because during this time period there was no such thing as divorce. Mrs. Wright was dying slowly because of her husband, and the only way to escape was to kill him the same way he killed her bird through strangulation. Mrs. Wright’s situation is comparable to a prisoner who is condemned to incarceration for life with no parole when they have never committed a crime.
The title was forced upon me through a rigorous legal process, which in the end I let myself loose. Even though the thought of raising my niece by myself makes me want to vomit, I could never give her to a stranger. My sister, even though she is the criminal that she is, would never want that. And at the end of the day, she is still my sister, and Julia is still my blood. Angela, my sister, committed murder.
