In many ancient Chinese artworks, women are often depicted as weak, home-oriented and obedient individuals. As in several other ancient civilizations such as Egyptian and Mesopotamian, women in China remained submissive to man. Starting from the mid- Zhou dynasty in 1000 B.C.E. until the Sui dynasty in 600 C.E., Chinese civilization evolved under the heavy influence of the patriarchal view of pre- and neo-Confucianism. Due to physical disparity, occupation difference, and the gaining popularity of Confucian beliefs, Women in this time period were subjected to the hostility of men and suffered from the declining influence of their social status.
Therefore, it is not surprising to find extremely very few women in senior positions in many Chinese firms and organizations. This evidences the male-oriented culture as a dominant feature in China. Sexual harassment is very rampant especially against junior female employee. However, most of these offences go unpunished because females usually fear losing their jobs since it would be extremely difficult to get another job. In addition, female executives travelling alone or in the company of male associates are rare in China.
He and Esperanza were in love with each other but could not marry because of the different classes. Miguel was very poor but he was hard working and caring. An example of how Miguel was a caring person was when he took all of Esperanza’s money orders from Mr. Yakotas shop and then left Los Angeles and went to Aguascalientes to bring the money orders so that Abuelita so that she can come to the United States. Esperanza is a dynamic character; she changed throughout the story from starting as a little spoiled girl to becoming a poor understanding and caring young woman. Although Esperanza was dynamic, Mama and Miguel were static characters.
While M. Lantins wife's has a different type of addiction an addiction that seems very strange to M.Lantin, her addiction to imitation jewelery. Even though M. Lantin with his salary could not buy real jewelery he was very critical about what was thought to be his his wife's fake jewelery collection “ you have the tastes of a gypsy” and often calling her collection “ Junk” ( Maupassant, 8). only to discover after his wife's death that the jewelery he mocked was worth a fortune and that she got those jewels from a third person. Both Hester and M. Lantin demonstrate how self absorbed in their own lives they did not realize what was happening to there loved
Sexism Sexism caused a lot of problems in history. For example during the industrial revolution women are prevented to have a job that is paid equally as a man does although they do more work than a men does, and this lead to women rights movement. In ancient China women were not allow to go out they couldn’t have a job all they do is stay at home and do housework. It’s not really because their religion didn’t allow them. It’s because Chinese people think after women get married they will live with their husband and they will become a part of the other family.
Both Daisy and Curley’s wife didn’t really truly love their husbands. They just married them for the money. The character Nick from the book, The Great Gatsby and Candy from the book OF Mice and Men, both had related dreams. Nick wanted to live outside of the city in a small home. Candy wanted to join Lennie and George in there American dream which was to live on a small ranch and tend their own animals.
Daisy had been raised to marry for money and keep her family’s name involved in old money and lavish events. Doing otherwise was socially unacceptable. When Daisy met Tom she may have once loved or still was in love with Gatsby, however Tom’s old money and social status was all that mattered to her. I don’t think social status and money are as important to Daisy as maintaining her reputation
Sometimes these cities were even under monarchy that helped the economy greatly with vendors selling rare gems and gold outside of their castle gates. Those with greater power would pave the way of how the civilians would live in what their beliefs and rules they'd follow in the city to keep everything intact. China's kinship system has the father of the head of the family whereas the females would tend their house while the men were either working or fighting for their country. The women's rights in China is very similar to Timbuktu where women must conceal their faces unless if they happen to be a maidservant or sell food on the markets. Judges, priests and other learned men were maintained at the king's costs and charges.
From this story, it is obvious that Miss Shi was wrong and had caused death upon a righteous man. Therefore, when these kinds of problems and misunderstandings happen, people started considering women as troublemakers. And from then on, women’s status in the society only gets lower. However, each individual has different personalities and not everyone is the same, people should not judge all women as the same because of examples like “Chaste Woman
Infidelity today is the number one killer of marriages and relationships, and can be looked at as a symptom for non-working marriages. In the novel there was a lack of love and respect in the marriages, and there wasn’t anyone trying to fix their marriages either because they were around for their spouse’s money, or cheated because they were rich and felt could get away with it. There was one couple in particular that demonstrated these examples of infidelity in the novel. The couple was Daisy and Tom. Daisy stayed married to Tom because he was buying her happiness and his money, while deep down, she was really hurt and sad about the relationship.
