‘God bless us everyone!’ Dickens is giving the Christmas image which is all about getting together and feasting. Even know the Cratchits were poor, Scrooge saw how happy and thankful the Cratchits are to be together while in contrast Scrooge is very wealthy, yet he is miserable and alone. Ghost of Christmas present told Scrooge if these shadows are unaltered by the future Tiny Tim will die. Scrooge feels guilt and regret about stating that people should just die and decrease the surplus population earlier to the business man. A ghost of Christmas present then took Scrooge to Scrooge’s nephews Christmas dinner and even know Scrooge doesn’t treat his nephew kindly, Scrooge saw how his nephew feels sorry for Scrooge and that Scrooge’s nephew has the decency to raise a tost to Scrooge at the Christmas
Because his parents have died in a car accident, Ponyboy lives with his brothers Darry and Sodapop. Darry repeatedly accuses Ponyboy of lacking common sense, but Ponyboy is a reliable youth. Throughout the novel, Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love. He matures over the course of the novel, eventually realising the importance of friendship and the feeling of respect. Though he is only fourteen years old, he understands the way his social group functions and the role each group member plays.
Cherry is smart and dreamy like Ponyboy, and they have a good conversation. Seven Excerpt Responses “You cant win against them no matter how hard you try because they’ve got all the breaks and even whipping them isn't going to change the fact.” Chapter 1, Page 11 In this scene in the story, Ponyboy is asking His older brother Darry if he can participate int he gang rumble. Ponyboy recently got hurt in a church fire so Darry thinks it would be good for him to stay out of the fight but Ponyboy still really wants to. I think this excerpt is important to the story because it shows how daring and how Darry is telling Ponyboy with all mighty. It is a form of hyperbole because it is exaggerating what is going to happen.
In the two short stories it seems as if the sons’ relationships with their father were quite different, but they also had their similarities because both of them cared for their son. In the story “Powder” the father took good care of his son for he continually tried to give his son what he thought was best. He fought for the privilege to see his son after he already snuck him into a jazz club to see Thelonious Monk (Wolff 1). He was a good dad, for as his son says “He wouldn’t give up. He promised, hand on heart, to take good care of me and have me home for dinner on Christmas Eve” (Wolff 1).
It was hard for Milton to get started ad he did fail trying to sell candy for the first time. Still, he did not give up. Milton worked hard to invent mouth-watering new recipes and expand his factory. He created work for people who needed jobs and schools for orphan boys and girls. He was able to help the soldiers during World War II which means, chocolate goes to war.
The ghost of Christmas Present displays several humble Christmas celebrations to Scrooge, certainly the second spirits if Christmas reveals the powerful nature of Christmas. The ghoul escorts the antagonist to the warm home of the Cratchits where they embrace Christmas and toast Scrooge despite their financial struggles and the illness of their youngest son Tiny Tim. Moreover, Scrooge is escorted to the home of his nephew Fred, where he witnesses the joy of celebrating the festive season. Hence, the spirit’s intentions emerge as powerfully educating about the need to interact with family and celebrate, a realisation that deeply touches Scrooge’s sense that he must end his solitary
It was Christmas Eve. Hearing his clerk wish his nephew a merry Christmas Scrooge said “my clerk, with fifteen shillings a week, and a wife and family, talking about a merry Christmas”. Dickens is trying to express how Scrooge could not see what all the fuss was about; his clerk was paid very badly and even though he did not have much was willing to spend money on one day. Also how Cratchit was looking forward to spending time with his family. Dickens also writes how Scrooge treated his Nephew Fred, badly, his nephew and only living relative is a very cheerful man who loves Christmas.
He talks about how he made a fortune selling marmalade (Pg.). He happens to love the Yankees and is desperate to go watch their game, with tickets burning in his pocket as his motivation, he eagerly throws out rude and snide remarks in every argument and conversation that happens within that small juror room. Juror VII doesn’t even care about the young boy with a death sentience riding on the decision of theses people, he just cares about himself. He proves that on page 17 when he states “He’s real quick with switch knives, they said. He’s a very fine boy.
Of Mice and Men The book, “Of Mice and Men,” is written by John Steinback and it’s about an unlikely pair: George is “small and quick and dark in the face”; Lennie, a man of tremendous size and great strength, has the mind of a young child. They’re the main characters and they just basically go around California, looking for work in farms. The book took place during the Great Depression. But I’m wondering if George is a good friend to Lennie. I believe that George is a good friend to Lennie because he constantly looks out for Lennie and treats him well, not the best treatment towards a friend but it’s still good.
This story opens up with the words “I wish”. Each character in the book is wishing for something, Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival, Jack, a simple young man who wishes that his cow, Milky White, would give milk, and the Baker and his Wife, who wish they could have a child. While Little Red Riding hood buys bread from the Baker to take to her grandmother's house. And just like the Wizard Of Oz each of these characters goes on a journey to get what they wish for, just like Dorothy, the scarecrow, the tin man, and the lion. In the beginning it is revealed that an old ugly witch has placed a spell on the bakers line so that they wouldn’t be able to have a kid.
