Author: Margaret Peterson Haddix Genre: Nonfiction Antagonist: The Antagonist was the Population Police. They tried to kill all the 3rd children in the families. They are in the government. They killed Jen. Protagonist: The Protagonist is Luke. He is 11 years old. He has 2 brothers. He is the 3rd child. Mathew: Mathew is Luke’s brother. He is 15 years old. Mark: Mark is Luke’s brother. He is 13 years old. Harlan: Harlan is Luke’s father. He is married to Edna. Edna: Edna is Luke’s mother. She is married to Harlan. Jen: Jen is Luke’s friend. She is 13 years old. She is a 3rd child too. George: George is Jen’s step dad. He is in the population police. Setting: The setting is in the woods. Conflict: The conflict is Jen wants to do a rally, but Luke doesn’t want to. Jen ends up doing the rally. Jen dies and now the Population Police are looking for Luke. Resolution: The resolution is Luke tells his parents all he has done. George asks him if he wants a fake ID so he doesn’t get caught by the Population Police. Luke agrees and says he does want one. He ends up moving in with these people that don’t have any kids and he changes his name to Lee Grant.…show more content…
Luke has to stay hidden his whole life until he meets this other 3rd child, Jen. She has always wanted to be free and doesn’t want to hide anymore. Luke goes over to her house every time he can and then one day she tells him she wants to start a rally so all 3rd children can be free. Luke tells her he can’t go. She gets mad and goes by herself. She gets killed by the Population Police. Luke finds out and feels bad that he didn’t go with her. The Population Police found out that Luke existed and they tried to find him. George, Jen’s step dad, gets Luke a fake ID and Luke goes and lives with these other people so he can be
