“Also, lowering the drinking age would have dangerous long-term consequences: Early teen drinkers are not only more susceptible to alcoholism but to developing the disease earlier and more quickly than others” (Dean-Mooney). By lowering the age limit, more young adults will be granted access to alcohol and put their own lives in harm and danger. Health conditions will skyrocket in the United States, and there
Cyber bullying can have a longer lasting effect on the victim. It can be humiliating due to the fact that it has a bigger audience opposed to the kids on the playground. There are many warning signs that could indicate that someone is involved in bullying. Some of the signs include the following; they come home with damaged or missing clothing, they have thing such as electronics and jewelry come up lost, and they have unexplained injuries and complain frequently of feeling sick. They can hurt themselves, and they can lose interest in school, friends and activities that they used to enjoy.

Statistics show that if the drinking age was lowered to eighteen, the percentage of liver problems would increase. English 100 May 6, 2008 Prescribed Addiction The persistent problem with the addiction and misuse of prescription drugs is affecting the way people live on a daily basis. One problem that is not helping with this rising epidemic of the abuse of prescription drugs is the availability of these types of drugs. Addiction to some types of prescription drugs can begin unintentionally after being prescribed the drug. Due to the major problem with illicit drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and crack, prescription drug abuse has not been looked at as a major priority in our society. There is promotion of prescription drug abuse among the youth figures in our society, due to the pressures to be successful in school.
Sue Palmer is another sociologist that believes the increasing impact of technology and the media over the past 50 years is causing childhood to deteriorate. Palmer argues that in modern society there is a ‘toxic childhood’ due to an excessively screen-based culture which she feels is why there has been an increase in developmental conditions in children. She has reasons for some of these conditions, for example ADHD could be caused to screen saturation as the rapid changes of images on TV can make an immature brain go into overdrive resulting in the child seeing real life as boring. Palmer also believes the increase in screen-based activities has made it more difficult for children to develop literacy skills. Also Palmer
“Meth causes the blood vessels to constrict; it cuts off the steady flow of blood to all parts of the body. Heavy usage can weaken and destroy these vessels, causing tissues to become prone to damage and inhibiting the body's ability to repair itself.” (Visible Signs, paragraph 1) A really big appearance change that happens when using this drug is the aging process. The body loses the elasticity and luster that causes you to look young in such a short amount of time. Another really bad thing that can happen to your body with all the Methamphetamine use is the hygiene of the mouth. “The drug causes the salivary glands to dry out, which allows the mouth's acids to eat away at the tooth enamel, causing cavities.” (Meth Mouth, second
Alcohol advertising and product placements are very common and often occur on television and in radio shows for which the majority of the audience is underage, on Internet sites attractive to young people, and on billboards and in retail outlets where young people are frequently present. Advertising often uses youth oriented themes (Us Department Justice2002). Therefore we need to address the issues of alcohol advertisements so that they will not antis our children and draw them into drinking underage. Module 4: Observational Learning Adam Herrin PSY150-450 Violence in the media is getting worse as time moves on. In the 1970’s scholars came to the conclusion that early childhood exposure to media violence caused children to be more aggressive. Leonard Eron wrote that “the weight of evidence supports the theory that during a critical period in a boy’s development, regular viewing and liking of violent television lead to the formation of a more aggressive life style.” Today we are seeing way more violence in society than in past decades. I do think that violence in the media and in videogames has a great deal to do with social problems being experienced today. But, there may be another side to this.
The ideals that are portrayed through the media are, to me, the most pressing issues today. Through television, radio, magazines, and newspapers, negative messages are being presented to the world's youth. Though some of these media outlets are intended to raise awareness of some problems, most have the opposite effect. Bad behavior, poor body image, drug and alcohol use, lack of morals, and violence is becoming "normal" in society. I have seen, first hand, that high school students are becoming desensitized to things that are truly horrible.
