Dr. Kenneth Schonberg a pediatric doctor says, "There's no evidence that a child who is spanked moderately is going to grow up to be a criminal or anti-social or violent" (Rosellini 2). Although many psychologists and doctors have tried to prove this with false statistics, there is only proof that properly spanking a child will only benefit him or
Lovers often assume that they will get their partner to change someday. Given the problems with relying on biased personal experiences and authority, it is important for us to consider the evidence for what actually influences behavior. It may be surprising to learn how powerful nature actually is, as revealed through the best available science. For example, research from across the world has found that people who are adopted tend to be more similar to their biological relatives than their adoptive relatives. Similarly, identical twins raised apart in separate environments often are amazingly similar (and often show greater similarities
He has a 14-year-old autistic daughter. Lisa is the second candidate; she is 12-years-old and has had to suffer with health problems her entire life and has done nothing to bring these health problems onto herself; she was born that way. Her father is an oncologist at the hospital and has offered $2 million if she receives the transplant. She is a great candidate; but the heart transplant will only be effective until she is in her early-20s. Ozzy is
A way of challenging someone's expectations is by having support from friends, family, and teachers. Christy Brown was born with Cerebral Palsy, many people saw him as a failure but his family was always there for him. When people told the Brown’s family that they shouldn’t see him as a part of the family and should just send him to an institute they didn't listen. His mom worked very hard to prove to them that Christy was very intelligent and that his body was the only thing that was shattered. Christy understood what was going on and did all he could to show his mom that he understood her and that finally happened when he started to write with his “Left Foot”.
Gain Attention: A personal story about my mother having Diphtheria and Pertussis. II. Relate Topic: The CDC states that some parents are choosing not to inoculate their children because there is no need to. They are wrong, the only reason that these diseases seem like they are gone is due to vaccinating young children.
This is because there are many factors that are believed to be inherited by our parents such as intelligence and addictions. For instance, if a woman was pregnant and she drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes or drugs then there is a high chance that the baby could become an addict. Additionally, two intelligent parents are most likely to have an intelligent child because some people believe that intelligence is genetically inherited from the parents. A case study supporting the ‘Nature’ argument is ‘The Jim Twins’. Jim L. and Jim S. were first reunited at age 39.
But now after doing research on this subject I've come to the conclusion that the area is grey, there is no right or wrong answer, there is still not one scientist with a definite answer. For example, the philosopher John Locke believed that everyone was born a tabula rasa or blank slate. He wrote essays explaining his view on how everyone was a slate that life left little scratches on from each human experience. There have been many who oppose this view though, such as Plato and Descartes. Both of these men believe, that to a certain extent, people have many innate traits.
Nature vs. nurture is a long time disagreement about which is more important heredity or environment. I personally think they both affect a lot and both make up a person. I don’t believe one is more important than the other, they are both important. You can be born with problems but nurture can change it or make it better. For example autism, I have read articles that there kids are born with autism but they stopped feeding the child something like wheat products and the child was perfectly fine.
Nature vs. Nurture Over the years, there has been a lot of controversy on whether or not genes that we inherit affect us and how we live, or if it is the environment that we have been raised in. There are many different reasons for why one is more correct than that other. But, all of the reasons can be backed up with very good evidence and reasoning. Personality, development, intelligence, behavior and ability to do certain things make us the individuals that we are. But what influences those things?
With the right environment, nurture, and determination I’m sure one can excel to their full capacity in traits such as intelligence or athleticism. I may be incorrect and I even might have my own bias but that is what I truly think and believe. Before we tackle on this longly debated predicament, we must understand that there are many different perspectives on the nature versus nurture topic. A biological psychologist might approach the problem focusing on genetic, hormonal, and neurochemical explanations of behavior, leaning more towards
