The Nature Vs Nurture Debate Rebecca Johnson For many years the nature vs nurture debate has been studied and thought about but no answers has been made to which is actually true. Many theories have been constructed to suggest each side has many true factors about them but none have proven to make a final decision. The debate it’s self is solely down to if genes affect are future personality and traits or the way we have been effectively brought up. No ones knows it’s it is just behaviour or a combined theory. One of the most common questions asked is do genes actually control our behaviour? Case studies and evidence show that in certain cases it is believed that genes can do such a thing. Cases such as ‘Twin Studies.’ It is believed that 40-50% of twins were found to have a generic gene, which helps with the way each twin, has the same personality trait, such as liking the same colour or having the same fashion sense. This can also lead to the twins having the same mannerisms, which is often similar in most twin studies. The twin studies are a popular debate, which challenges the thought of nurturing rather than nature. If they are identical it is certainly genes but having the same interests doesn’t show much evidence it can be thought as just a coincident. Other evidence that nature is a big possibility. Looking at the ‘Bruce Reimer’ case it shows how nature is a big part of life. As he had a failed circumcision operation as a child his mother got in touch with a highly famous doctor at that period, ‘Doctor Money.’ His theory was fairly simple, as Bruce was only a young baby when the operation had taking place, Doctor Money thought he couldn’t possibly know the difference between being a boy or a girl.
