The Little Foxes is a play written by Lillian Hellman. The play is the account of a family called the Hubbard’s and their struggle to make a business deal with a man named William Marshall. The deal is to bring a cotton mill to the Hubbard’s plantation in the deep South. The deal is that The Hubbard’s need to come up with $225,000 and will have controlling interest in the mill. The plot thickens as the family will do anything to make sure they get what they want. Regina especially show that she is a machiavel during the events of the play. As the play opens we see Mr. Marshall and Regina flirting. She is doing this even though she has a husband and does it to cement the deal. Her brothers are no better as they encourage this because they also think it will be the final nail in the coffin of the deal. As Mr. Marshall leaves, we discover the major problem that the family has. Regina’s Husband is sick and they cannot get his part of the money. Regina turns this to her advantage as she tells her brothers that her husband is actually holding out for more money. She tricks her own brothers into thinking that Horace wants double. She manipulates her brother again when Oscar suggests that Leo and Alexandra should marry and Regina plays into the idea with no intention of ever letting her daughter marry Leo. The family then sends young Alexandra to Baltimore by herself to get her father Horace to come home. Regina knows that he cannot say no to his daughter even if it meant dying. She shows no concern for the health of the person she is married to. All she cares about is the money that she can get from him. It’s been a week since Alexandra is sent to get her father and the deadline for the deal is nearing and the family is getting anxious. Finally when Horace gets back with Alexandra from Baltimore Regina right away starts to try and get him to give the money for the
