Tellez 1 Imagine coming home after a long day of work only to find your television as the last resort of relaxation. The television is turned on and you start going through each channel, only to find this particular one called Maury in the KTLA network. This particular show is generally about women who take men in order to prove to them that they are the father of their child, sometimes in certain circumstances, these women take more than two men. The show tends to focus in the misfortune of these women, who don't want to be called or labeled as cheaters and liars by the men who currently hold a relationship with them or maybe they had a relationship in the past prior to the baby being born. Being aggressive also comes into play, and this is defined as," hostile or destructive behavior or actions" (Shane Gomes, Psychology 307 Lecture, September 29, 2010, California State University, Los Angeles).People who were on the show, as well as people in normal day life sometimes reach a breaking point in which they "crack" and therefore they show destructive behavior such as throwing things, screaming at other people or objects, etc. Tellez 2 The Maury show has an estimated time of around forty five minutes, during the thirty minute time period that I watched the show there were around sixty verbal forms of violence toward the males that these women brought on the show. There were four cases during the time frame that I watched the show, the first case involved a Caucasian woman who brought three men to test for the paternity of her one year old baby boy. Tellez 3 We as individuals and as a society engage in behaviors that are either positive or negative and have outcomes as well, however sometimes depending on the outcome of the behavior we are either going to engage in it again in the future or not. Social Learning Theory is defined as, "a theory that proposes that social behavior is primarily learned by observing and imitating the actions of others, and secondarily by being directly rewarded and punished for our own actions" (Franzoi, 2003, pp.462). This theory is applied to us and is put in practice since we are able to process cognitive information , therefore we as an individual decide and accept whether doing a certain behavior is right or wrong depending on the outcome or reward we get from society.
