A Theory of Power Where love rule, there is no will to power, and where power predominates there love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.(Carl Jung) . Michel Foucault believed that their are four types of powers; custodial, indoctrinary, visionary, and oppressive power. In this paper oppressive power is the main focus. Oppressive power according to Michel Foucault is the force in play during acts of cruelty, hatred and violence. In the book “A Child Called It”by Dave Pelzer, a song called “Run Away Love” by Ludacris and the book”One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” by Ken Kesey, shows that in society oppressive power can determine who has the upper hand in situations. Power is something that can lead people to make either the right decision or a negative decision. In the beginning of the book “A Child Called It” by Dave Pelzer, Dave and his mother has a positive and loving Delano 2 Relationship that every child wants to have with his mother. Towards the middle of the book Dave mother lets her emotions and drinking habitats take over and starts to abuse her son. In the book”One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest” by kensey is about a mental ward that started out with a an name chief broom telling his experiences about the ward, and how everything goes smoothly until Mc Murphy comes along. When Mc Murphy comes to the ward everyone starts to stand up for themselves and decides not to listen to Big Nurse.
